I finally gave in an am in with a weekend place in Starkville. Signed the papers recently. Getting pretty excited about it.

Observation after having looked at a number of places (understatement) in town and around: Lots of great-looking places and developements, old and new. Concentration is just off campus near Veranda and South Montgomery. Mecca. Also some on Russell which are probably in pretty good position now that Cotton Mills is getting liftoff.

Found everything from a 110 year old house to older homes in mature neighborhoods, to apartment/condo conversions to brand new construction that seems to be very well built. Our time may be upon us to explode as a city. (BTW - bigger than Columbus at last census if you didn't know.)

Something that is missing that I think I would have seriously considered is downtown apartment or condo developemnts. I think there are some lofts in the area but no sparkling or ammenble place you could buy downtown.

If we had a surge of those types of developments in downtown Starkville, I think it would go over very well.

So out of that wide assortment, where did you end up landing and what were the reasons for choosing it?

There is a proposed new developmentcalled Georgetown about 1-2blocks South of the Restaurant Tyler/Mugshots corner on Washington Street that will provide some alumni condo styleliving near downtown once it gets off the ground, but you are correct that downtown doesn't have many options.

A few years ago (or maybe 5-6) there was to be a condo development right downtown, but I guess that was one that fell through. I remember a website with pics/layouts, etc, and remember the condos were pretty expensive per sq foot, but really nice.
