This is, without a doubt, the most retarded <17>ing I have ever heard. Beer but no wine/liquior. What's the difference other than alcohol content? I agree with DS about the hate for this state. It does nothing to help itself out.

I don't understand the logic behind blocking liquor and not beer. It all gets you drunk.

very discretionary type thing. Probably somebody failed to meet some legal requirement in the way the the law was passed or the way the application was submitted. Stay tuned and I bet you will find it is a municipal screw up.

When national prohibition ended, Congress left regulation entirely to the states. Some states regulate it at the State level, some states delegate it mostly to local governments. The bottom line is, State legislatures ultimately decide what decisions can be made at the local level. For some reason, probably through compromise to actually get Prohibiton repealed in Mississippi in 1966, the State regulates wine and liquor sales, while local governments regulate beer. The State did retain certain powers in regard to regulation of beer, such as alcohol content.

Here is part of a FAQ on the ABC site. Note that "Alcohol beverage" refers entirely to liquor and wine.

What are the legal hours of sale for alcohol beverages?

Package stores with ABC permits may only open for business from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m, Monday through Saturday. Package stores are not allowed Sunday sales and cannot open on Christmas Day.

ABC on-premises permittees may make sales of alcohol beverages at the permitted location between 10:00 a.m. and midnight, Monday through Saturday. Sales after midnight and Sunday sales by on-premises permittees may only occur if the hours for sale have been extended by the State Tax Commission

The way I read that is to sale liquor on Sundays, the State Tax Commission (ABC really) has to give you permission...regardless of what the local law states..

The Mississippi ABC continues to amaze me. I dont know how things work in other states (Like Louisiana) but they are able to sell at convenience stores and wal-mart 7 days a week. Doesnt the State control all aspects of the ABC and their warehouse in Jackson? You guys probabally know a lot more than me about this whole situation.
