Starkville

Just spent my fist non game weekend in Starkville since 2013. I am amazed at all of the progress in town and on campus. All of the condos going up in the district look great and all the newer places we ate (Bulldog Burger, Churn and Spoon, Stagger In) were outstanding. I have always loved Starkville but it is quickly turning into an even better place than I ever thought possible. Can't wait to see how much progress is made over the next few years.

Bulldog Burger is an interesting concept. Most "mid-level" burger spots concentrate their efforts on a better quality meat and bun. Not Bulldog Burger. Bulldog Burger throws all their efforts into the condiments and unique toppings. I think the combinations are great but...Don't get a burger by its lonesome.

Russell Street has really come along way. I know the retail establishments haven't developed around the Mill like they anticipated, but it has alot of potential.

I live in Starkville, and I am constantly impressed with the quick progress the town has made. It has become much much better even in the last 5 years.

Having said that I think it could still be even better. Our Alderman has a lot to do with this, but that's another conversation.

One thing I wish is that downtown would somehow make a come back. It is really dead these days. It would be nice to have the cotton district popular as well as a cool downtown scene. Maybe we will get there. One can hope.

My thought was that the way the district is growing and getting newer and nice things that eventually downtown will take off too. Those apartments they are building near the grill look awesome.

Yeah I really hope so. I have heard something is going in the dawghouse building soon, and I know Moes BBQ is going in the old OVPC building. Maybe a couple new places down there will get some buzz started.

The Guest Room is a really cool spot, but has very limited capacity.

It really hasnt been the same down there since Mugshots stopped being a bar at night. Also, the new city hall makes the road hard to access (and it looks stupid)

Hopefully the "to go" cup law will make the area more lively, but i wouldnt count on that happening too soon because our alderman must approve it before it can be executed. We will see

Is a huge improvement, and will help to keep downtown busy. And really not too much different driving, just make the Uturn or drive around the block. Need more dives on the side streets.

We ate at The Camphouse, Saturday and was impressed. Good burgers and service. Their macaroni and cheese build your own was pretty interesting. The patio will be awesome during football season.

I don't know if any of you have ever been to Tuscaloosa's downtown, but there's a restaurant/bar called Taco Mama. It started in Birmingham and has started to branch out. I think it'd do very well in downtown Starkville. Great food, prices, and drinks. Would do really well if the to-go cup law comes into play.

I always thought Starkville should have it's signature restaurant downtown. A place that's a well known landmark, like Little Dooey, but instead, a real restaurant with live music and popular food.

Mayhew is only part time right now though, only doing the samples every 2 or 3 weeks on Saturday afternoons. Sucks you can only get 6 samples too instead of full pints, thanks MS legislature...
