This is getting painful to watch. Boise was doing everything in their power with penalties and turnovers in the first half to give USM a chance, but they are still running up the score on them. Some of their fans were being serious in wishing for a drop to FCS (Div. II) the other day.

Really, would it be that awful though? I think it would be a sad day for college football myself (USM has a storied football history despite the ridicule they get on this board) but they struggle to raise money to field a team each year. Their 25,000 fans would still show up each game, they could still play the 2 or so BCS teams they play each year, and their baseball team would be a lot more successful because they wouldn't have to rely on guys like Papelbon who train their in the winter to donate a Bowflex.

Over the last 5 year I hold DSU in higher regard, and that's with USM winning their CUSA championship. They'd kick the snot out of DSU.

Of course you've got the governor and a lot of higher-ups now who claim USM, so it won't happen, but it should. It would be the best thing for all 3 D1 schools.

And by this I mean FBS D1AA.. not FCS.

There is no such thing as FBS D1AA. FCS is the old 1AA

Yeah, that. I temporarily revoke my own college football fanhood for not knowing anything other than D1. I'll learn, I promise.

Might be better to hold off on the sentiment for the next couple years.

If you had been alive in the 80's and saw them beat us regularly, you wouldn't

feel sorry for them at all. We should NEVER PLAY THEM! In addition to 1,000,006 other reasons, we do not need another rivalry game. Fortunately, most of the players they got from Alabama in the Collins/Carmody era now go to Troy and S Alabama

Could they compete football only D2? Because their basketball team and baseball team would win the national championship often if they moved entirely to D2. If they could compete in football D2 the same case would happen probably. BUT, I do think it would help State and Ole Miss on the football field a tiny bit...maybe????

Well the streak may finally end next week, unfortunately. They host FIU in the Pillow Fight of the Century.

The same FIU that only lost by 21 to Bethune-Cookman and hung around in a hard-fought 72-0 setback at Louisville.

they got what they deserved when they fired that long time coach. his name escapes me for the moment. got too big for their britches. kinda like when ole miss fired the guy who I think is now doing well at duke. after all the **** I heard from their fans over the years, I don't feel sorry for them at all. I enjoy it. wish ole miss was sucking that bad.

Jeff Bower. Correct me if I'm but I don't think J. Bond ever beat USM. He beat every team in the SEC and owned LSU but USM was his nemesis.

what ever happened to that guy? I thought was a pretty good coach. the shambles that program is in right now shows how stupid a move it was to can him.

If they lose to FIU, they may as well just go ahead and shut the program down.

Bower was so awesome that he didn't get another coaching offer

Exactly

I just don't understand why some of our fans are scared to play them. We are going to work them.

How bad is FIU to be a 15 point underdog to a team that has lost 16 straight and is coming off a 60-7 loss?

Jeff Bower also invented the cure to cancer, won the iron man triathalon, and said no when he was asked out by supermodels.

I'm not worried about it now but at the time, it didn't make sense to me. USM is not what they were 4 years ago when the games were announced in 2009.

At the time

the game was scheduled, I was under the impression that Mullen would have our program to the point where we should beat the USM of old. Unfortunately, we've not quite met that mark (in my mind), but USM sucks now, so I guess it evens out. To make it clear, I'm not interested in seeing us play them every year (because they suck), but I don't think we should be scared to play them.
