State 1878 Bourbon

Did anybody else get the email about State 1878 bourbon? Two ”tiers,” one for $50 and the other $100. Anybody know anything about it, who’s making it, etc.? Wonder if it’s any good, or something Selmon is making in his bathtub. Might be cool to have on my bar either way.

Unless it’s just something rebranded as “1878 bourbon”, it hasn’t had time to age long enough to be any good.

That is my assumption. I don't think State is actually running a distillery. I would that that is just a label like Costco's Kirkland brand...

I ordered a bottle and it seems like it is being distributed by Longhorn Wine and Spirits out of Austin, TX that doses custom distribution and labeling. There is a huge market for what is called orphaned barrels where barrels are bought at auction and sold under a private label. Blue Note out of Memphis is one of those brands. They do not distill anything but buy the barrels and bottle them in Memphis.

It's from Be Spoken group that does this for other schools so I wouldn't expect anything great but still worth supporting the school on the regular and I hope they update their labeling, it's not too appealing and looks cheap

Talking to those who sampled it, the Reserve is pretty good.
