For those of you whom have not had the pleasure of visiting Moretz Stadium, please take the opportunity to visit LR this coming Saturday for its 3:00 PM game with UVA Wise.

You will see, perhaps, the finest small college stadium in the US. It is perfect to host a high school state championship game in its 8-9000 seat stadium as the game will be played "Between The Bricks". Parking is great, concession facilities are very good, great restrooms close to the seats on both sides of the field, no track separating the field from seats, etc.

I dare say there is not a bad seat in the stadium. First class Entrances on both sides of the field.

Central locations are between Greensboro and Chapel Hill, and Durham. Charlotte and Hickory are a little far west. But whatever makes everyone happy. The trip will be a little long for the East to travel to Hickory but West teams.

Hickory was always a great host for basketball regionals. They will do a great job with this. It’s only an hour from Winston-Salem. It will be great for 1A, 2A or 3 A championship.

You're right BUT considering the amount of Triad teams that will be considered East in this current demarcation period, and their chances of representing the East, I think Hickory would be as convenient for them as a Chapel HIll or Durham, in some cases even moreso.

If the 4A championship game was to be held at Lenoir-Rhyne Univ., in Hickory; and if Maiden could win the West regional, they wouldn’t have to leave their county.
Problem is, the guys from Burns, Brevard, Bandys, Hibriten and Newton-Conover , etc., are going to want some of that action as well. The more I think about this classification, the tougher it seems.

Side Note: Even more so, if the 5A title game was there and Hickory would win the west. The University’s field is within walking distance of Hickory High, but the guys from East Lincoln, Crest, ands others will want something to say about it as well.

The point of location to power schools, both East and West, is a really good rational for Hickory/Lenoir Rhyne.
And with two classifications, think about 3A West having Shelby/Mt Airy/Walkertown/Mountain Heritage/Lincolnton vs possibly Eastern Randolph. Now Northeastern might not like it but........

Talk about the NCHSAA making money!!!!! Packed house coupled with what I know would be significant less cost for field usage. Less travel cost expense payments to the four teams. OMG

I agree having seen games at NC State the stadium is too big. Lenoir Rhyne, Elon that size stadium would be much better.

Lenoir-Rhyne installed brand new Field Turf in the summer of 2023 to complete the multi-phase renovation.

Moretz Stadium is the largest on-campus stadium in the South Atlantic Conference with a capacity of 7200 with the opportunity to expand to up to 10,000 in the future. The stadium is the 4th oldest stadium in all of Division II and is widely recognized as one of the finest small college football stadiums in the nation. In addition, Moretz Stadium became home to the men's and women's lacrosse teams after the programs' addition in 2011.

Parking is on both sides of the stadium and in front of the stadium.
Separate Locker room facilities are available on the left side of the stadium in the buildings connecting to the stadium by the walkway.
Both concession and restrooms on both sides of the stadium along with great handicap seating areas easily accessed.

The lighting system is on the level for TV Broadcast and is all LED so light shows can and are displayed at various times. The University and Stadium is located approximately 2.5 to 3 miles off I-40 requiring only one left hand turn after getting off the interstate.

Sounds like a great venue for a high school state championship game

Football will be played Dec. 11-13, Thursday to Saturday, at UNC’s Kenan Stadium, Durham County Memorial Stadium and Lenoir-Rhyne’s Moretz Stadium in Hickory. Kenan Stadium, which seats 50,500 fans, has long hosted state championship football, which has also been held at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh and Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem. Durham County Memorial Stadium, opened in 1958, is home to the Shaw University Bears Division II college football team, and can seat 8,500 fans. Moretz Stadium can seat 7,200 and expand to accommodate 10,000.
