The special sauce!Found out from a local restaurant owner that they had a long record of health code violations and were always just squeezing under the wire. All I know is that their picatta and fra diavolo was delicious.

No, not her... the other one.
I remember that the hare Krishna would have a float in the homecoming paradeAnyone else remember that during the mid/late 70s there was a house full of Hare Krishnas up by where all the frat houses are? Every Tuesday night (I think) they put on a free feed for anyone who was able and willing to listen to 15/20 minutes of their peace and love sermon of the week. It was all vegetarian, but the food was good and free, and really hit the spot when cash was short. Must admit I got a tad baked a few times and found my way there.
How about Dank’s Department Store downtown and OW Hout‘s near the edge of town on West College Ave?
The one on College Ave is closed. There are several around under the same name, but I don't remember if they are the same restaurant group or not. I recall them all being different, but I could be wrong. Is Brothers Pizza gone?
Thought it was called "Your" Father's Moustache. I could be wrong. Got my hair cut there too, mostly because of the attractive stylists. My List:
The Brickhouse
Roy Rogers
Playland
My Fathers Moustache (where I always got my hair cut)
Weis Markets on Beaver Ave
GC Murphy
SeraTec
As long as I lived here it was always known as a swingers place. If you ever saw the Hotel Impossible episode on the Autoport - Yikes - he used a black light in one of the rooms and what was shown would as skeevy as it gets.
I remember Dank's.How about Dank’s Department Store downtown and OW Hout‘s near the edge of town on West College Ave?
I think you are correct on the "Your" I was 50/50 on your vs "My"...it WAS 30+ years agoThought it was called "Your" Father's Moustache. I could be wrong. Got my hair cut there too, mostly because of the attractive stylists.
There was a cheesesteak place right next door, or maybe a few doors down, called Philly Mignon. It was on the lower level of one of the buildings on College Ave. They weren't around long, I think because it had no street visibility,
The Lions Den is still open. Nothings changed there at all.Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve been back, and this has been a depressing thread. With no Deli, Lion’s Den. Crowbar, or Saloon, I’m not sure what’s left id have any nostalgia for. I used to come to Baby’s with friends going back to high school, can’t believe that’s gone.
is the Shandygaff still around?

But she scooped the niblets! And she ate her peas one at a time.
It is so hard to explain to someone that was never there what Champs used to look like.
No, it is still open 3 days per week.Is The Saloon gone?
I thought it was called Nello's when I was hanging out there in the mid 80's. They were one of the few places that had Bass Ale on tap.It is funny how tradition is in a college town. People considering the Darkhorse a State College tradition. I worked at the Phyrst for about 8 years. One year Ernie went to Florida and came back with the idea that he wanted a popcorn machine. So he bought one and we made popcorn. About two years later he sold the bar (for the first time) and the new owner threw out the popcorn machine. When people came back that fall they were complaining about how sacrilege it was to get rid of such a deeply imbedded tradition (of two years).
It doesn't take long to leave a mark for a certain group of alums.
Before it was called Nello’s it was called Rego’s back in the late 70’s.I thought it was called Nello's when I was hanging out there in the mid 80's. They were one of the few places that had Bass Ale on tap.
Then I came back for an Arts fest and it had turned into the Surf Club.![]()
It wasn’t cc peppers at that point. We were going to take that concept to Philly in late nineties and when I saw the guys running it and the product they were using I went back to herlocker and said man you should never have sold it to those guys. He and his sons were just focusing on mustard at that point.I've never understood the appeal of CC Peppers. I think there were three or four locations when I arrived in 1990, but I always thought their food was subpar. I only ate there a few times when I was a student. My favorite was Bubba's by far, and Boots made a great hoagie as well.
Does anyone remember Ferrara's of Little Italy? It was across from the Pugh Street parking garage, in the basement. Used to be a favorite of a girlfriend and we were disappointed when it went out of business. Found out from a local restaurant owner that they had a long record of health code violations and were always just squeezing under the wire. Mini Marts and university auto supply.
Yes. My dad sold the mini Marts to Henry sahakian, uni marts. Henry is no longer with us. He was a good guy.Uni-Marts too....?
Again, being a fairly poor college kid I didn't spend much on eating out or going out during the week, and on the weekend's it was Crowbar, Lion's Den, or Player's. The last time I was there, 2015 (non-football weekend in November), I couldn't believe how much downtown had changed. Lots of newish restaurants I didn't recognize and more 'build up' on Beaver and College (and campus). I didn't get a chance to walk around much but did have dinner at The Corner Room. Couldn't believe how cheap it was. Think they had a baloney sandwich on the menu too. I often wonder where I would go for a cocktail or drink now as someone in his mid-40's and no longer dirt poor....is that cigar/cocktail bar still there? Want to say it was New Orleans themed?
If you haven't been downtown since 2015 you're going to be blown away next time you go.Uni-Marts too....?

CC peppers was still pretty good in the 80's but I did like the Cattle Car best.I've never understood the appeal of CC Peppers. You’re probably talking about the Big Eazy…it’s gone.Uni-Marts too....?

Yes, although I was told by a local friend that going there at my current age would be a dumb idea.is the Shandygaff still around?
Nah, just a reading comprehension problem apparently. I have very, very few people on ignore, maybe 1-2.First person he doesn’t have on ignore at least…
