always nice to sweep, no matter who the opponent. Overall offense looked, but defense and pitching was shaky. Hopefully defense will get things together, and we're just going to have some rough patches with our freshman pitchers.

i don't know if rhode island lost everyone from last year or not, but they were pretty good in 2009. probably should have made the tournament. beat miami, ohio state, oklahoma state, and i think they were in the 50s in rpi.

and I am hardly a Rhode Island baseball expert, that they lost their top two pitchers and their top hitter from last year, but they returned a pretty good bit of their team from last year back.

I don't know really how good they are, but their players have beaten some pretty good teams like NC State, Oklahoma State, A #25 ranked Ohio State team, and they lost to Cal-State Fullerton by one run. I imagine that most if not all of those were on the road. (I see that you mentioned some of those)

I do think that they are pretty well coached just by watching them, if nothing else.

They were picked to finish fourth in the A-10, so as of right now, I would say that this is a decent sweep, and possibly good depending on how they do the rest of the year. It might help us get into a regional if we're on the bubble or dare I say host?

Also, if nothing else I would say that it is very obvious that we are improved as a team. We probably win two out of three from them last year.

The freshmen pitchers looked great this weekend. Neither Stratton nor Bracewell gave up any runs.

this was a very nice sweep. Not because RI is a national powerhouse by any means, but looking back over the previous 3 years you will see us losing early season games to (and yes I looked it up for you), Northern Illinois, North Florida (lost 2 of 3), Air Force, Ark-Little Rock, Winthrop, Dallas Baptist, etc.

When you don't beat these type teams, you stay at home in late May, June. These are the games we MUST win if we want to host regionals again.

I had blocked most of those out of my memory. But that is a good point. Even last year, we probably do no better than two out of three against this team. We might even have allowed something ridiculous like 20 runs on Sunday. I remember losing to Air Force and being very worried.

A lot of these non-conference games can come back to haunt or help you in May, because more often times than not when they look at hosts, they look at these games becuase they have to split hairs.

Plus, let's face it. If this is a crappy team, well we beat a crappy team that we were supposed to beat, so we're not hurt there. If they're a good team, it helps us out when it's time to pick the regionals. Nothing but good.

It was the way we did it. A come from behind victory in the 9th to open up the season, then 2 pretty dominating performances to follow that up on Saturday and today. We gave up the early lead today and came right back with a run in the bottom of the 1st, then tied it up the next inning. Broke it open shortly thereafter. If we can tighten up on defense, this team has a chance at the post season for sure.

out to me. One, they are a good bit better than the the scrubs we have had trouble with the last few years. Two, they would have drilled last year's staff. Three, we swept.
