I have been somewhat quite this year in regards to Stansbury and the Bball team. I have never been on the bandwagon of firing Stans just because he always fielded a team that was capable of winning any time they stepped on the court. Of course we lost several games throughout his tenure that I couldn't believe we lost but we also won some games that I didn't expect us to win. For the most part of Stans' career at State he has produced a team that has either made it to the NCAA tourney or been at least a bubble team, and I realize there were a couple of years we didn't make to the NIT but for the most part we have been in contention for a tourney bid.
I'm like most of you in that I can't understand why we can't seem to produce once we get to the NCAA tourney. No matter how much talent or momentum we have entering the tourny we just don't seem to play to our ability. Yes, I am disappointed with our tourney record, but I was happy we made it, therefore I was happy with Stans and was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Over the course of the past three years I have come to the conclusion that Stans is not the coach I thought he was. In my opinion there has been not team chemistry over those three years. Remember the Delk twins and Hansbrough leaving? Last night I watched Augustus complain to Bost everytime there was a stoppage in play and I was just waiting for Bost the slap the **** out of him. That crap should not be tolerated by a coach, period. I don't know if the chemistry is the demise of this basketball team or the past two years teams, but there seems to be alot of individuals.
I got a little excited this year with the possibliity of Sidney playing and I still am. There seems to be some rumors leading to you to believe that he'll be cleared in the next week, but I'm not holding my breath. He could have a huge impact, but if you've seen him on the bench lately this kid looks like he weighs about 300 pounds, take away 20 for TV pounds maybe. At this point I just don't see by adding Sidney to the linup this late in year anything changing, if anything I believe it will damage the little chemistry the team has now.
My belief is that if Stans can't produce a tourney team this year then Byrne should give him a couple of options. 1) Ask him if he has the talent on next years team to make the tourny and if Stans believes he does, then give him one more year and expect a tourny bid, and if not then he'll be out of a job. 2) If Stans doesn't think he can make the tourney with next years talent then show him the door at the end of this year. Coach's are measured with progress and at this point Stans has showed no progress over the past two to three years.
This team has no leader, not go to guy, and no specific style of play that can lead them to the NCAAs, much less winning games in the NCAAs.
