State should investigate a student loyalty program like University of Tennessee.

My son goes to UT and there is a limited number of student tickets and they are purchased week to week. You get loyalty points by attending games and they carryover season to season. I know this doesn't fix the students leaving early but it makes the tickets more valuable to the students and over time rewards the ones that really want to be there.

Thanks. Just read about it. It's not the same. UT's program determines if you will even get a ticket to a home game and, if so, how good your seat will be. It's really a great idea. State's program indicates:

"As points are collected, you’ll earn prizes and will gain priority in purchasing bowl and post-season athletic tickets. Members of the program will also be given priority in purchasing football season tickets. Upon graduation, a portion of these points are then transferred to activate your new alumni Bulldog Club account."

Yeah, we didn't sell out our 11,000 student tickets this year. We could do it that way but we would have to reduce the student section by a couple of thousand and then sell those tickets as well. Seems a little impossible based on ticket sales for games like this one where the visiting team doesn't bring fans to buy tickets. Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, LSU have much larger student bodies and have options to do things like this a little easier. We actually have great student support and a huge student section that fills out for a 20,000 student population.

Good grief. It was hot as Hades today for a squash job of a game that everyone knew we would win. Who wants to sit in 90 degree heat and watch an elite SEC team play freakin UAB? Settle down; once SEC play opens up and the weather cools down, the students will come. You guys will find anything to complain about.

Yeah, not sure it's something we should do but we should investigate it...probably already have. It does build loyalty to the program in your student body. Student tickets are also more expensive at $10 per game which helps keep them in their seats.

Chill, bro. Just things to consider to make our program better. And it being hot is a good excuse to leave for a family with kids and the elderly--not students.

just take away student tickets on the east side...we are leaving a pile of money on the field just giving away these decent lower section tickets....just take them away and the school will a) make more money b) look more full

case closed. i dont know what happend between the croom error and now, but even my class would laugh at attendance.....****.

Didn't see any sarcasteriks but you do realize that the student section is where the majority of the noise and energy comes from, right? Yeah they left early but honestly I can hardly blame them on a day like today.

Short term it would neither make more money or look more full because attendance would drop as a result of people not wanting to attend a game at a stadium with no energy. Recruiting would suffer as well. Who wants to play in front of 35k docile fans?

Long term if you sell the tickets full price the students that can't afford full price tickets eventually become alumni. Then, they have no interest in attending football games since they never attended them while they were in school. Getting rid of the student section would ensure that our football program would go down the toilet.

You can bet that the student section will be there the entire game vs TAMU and Auburn and will be crazy loud. The student section bashing on here baffles me.

I propose that we attach personal decibel meters to the sitters in the west side around sections 6 and 7. I get that it's hot, but it was nearly silent on a couple of third downs near the north end zone.

where does the noise come from in the 3rd quarter after our students leave?

nobody gives a **** if we are an 11 at kickoff and a 3 from halftime on. people would more likely attend (as seen in our lower sections NOT in the student section) past the second quarter.

the student section is irrelevant if 7/8ths of them leave by the second half kickoff. THAT is the truth....all that other jibber-jabber is ******** because it is total fantasy when our students suck ***.

and btw, i didnt suggest getting rid of the student section, just the ones on the old east side. if they cant fill their own brand new section, 17 em. sell that **** to someone that wants to watch the game from a decent vantage point.

i cant bet **** on our dumb *** student section....i was there during the croom error, so dont talk to me about student support. i know what bad is, and today was really bad...and guess what? we actually won.

Seriously? If you want to bash something it's not the students. We were in the stadium 2 hours before kickoff in the rain last week. Today most left because 5 dollar water and drinks are a little expensive for some. If it's bad attendance for aTm and auburn then say something. But complaining because they left early against uab in 90+ degree heat? Please

I'll give the student section a mulligan on this one. It was hit as blazes. My wife--who had our infant out around town with family--said town was covered up with folks.

you and 61,885 others were there last week...myself included....nobody gives a ****. the student section was 10-15% full during the second half....the rest of the stadium was at least 70% full and it was as equally hot.

our students are weak. no excuses. that showing was really, really weak in a very tight game at the time. quit making excuses. if we "the collective we, as i speak in future tense" dont want better, i weep for our future. you know that was sorry. quit acting like the students did their part.

Agreed. Why not schedule these cup cakes in the evening when it is cooler? No one wants to sit through sweltering heat to see us struggle against a nobody. I put most of this on the school and not the students.

It wasn't just the students missing after half time. Both East and West sides were dismally sparse. That's old folk sections that left.

Okay I get it. Our students are an embarrassment. The heat nor rain or 5 dollar drinks or a crap opponent have anything to do with it. Our students should strive to be as good of a fan as you. 70% of our students should have been there at the end of the game today to sing the alma mater no excuses

Yep. And the students were baking in direct sun. Did you also notice that the Scoreboard Club was never more than about 25% full? I don't blame them for staying inside. I was in the shade all the time and was still burning up.

I'm not sure you could pay enough students to fill that section for all 4 quarters of that barn burner.
