Excellent way of facilitating this

instead of just issuing checks. Very short questionnaire that the student must certify. MSU officials review and grant aid based on need. No method is perfect, but as long as the officials do their job and have criteria for providing the necessary amount this is a good thing. Even if every student applied and was found to need relief that would be about $400 per student.

Thanks for the info.

I hope they do a better job than the aid given after Katrina. Basically if your family lived south of Jackson all you had to claim was the power went out and your family lost all their food in the freezer this would get you a $500 check.

I personally know students that were in serious need of help during those times and were held up because some were taking advantage of the situation.

It must have been early on when they had trouble getting aid, because later on they were throwing money at anyone that filled out and submitted the paper work. Someone told me that I should submit the form because the school was getting closer to the 'use it or lose it' deadline. I submitted the form with a very open, honest description of the minimal impact Katrina had on me and they literally sent me a $5,000 check for the fall semester and then a $5,000 check for the spring semester. They literally threw $10k cash at me because a tree fell on my family's home in Madison (caused very minor damage) and my dad's old truck got damaged, all of which was covered by insurance.
