I would like to see the Cats make a real statement Saturday on Senior Day and crush Purdue. By all measures we are a vastly superior team and I would love to see us win big for the country and the Bowl selection committees to see.

I don't know how whooping a bad team qualifies as a statement. I'd rather have a decent win and then make a statement vs. Wisconsin. There will always be doubts about this team in the wake of the debacles vs. UM and Iowa. A win against Wiscy in Camp Randall would dispel at least some of them.

Right now, this team resides in a gray area between good and mediocre, though closer to good. We need to beat a team that plays Big Boy football.

Avoiding an upset and injuries would speak plenty to me!

Agree with SkolCats sentiments-- although I would like to see the D play well allowing for a reasonable margin of victory.

The statement game is the game against Wisky at Camp Randall. Tough place for NU to win, but win there and NU significantly diminishes the narrative of "Caught Stanford by surprise, Duke not really that good, etc. ." And, perhaps even more importantly, we see if sg out west returns to the board .

But, to the former, they did, and to the latter, they're not.

Our fanbase seems overly concerned with perception at times. This is the wrong school to be a fan of, if that is one's concern.

Completely agree with you, NorthNJ. Go up to Mad Town and win as an underdog and that will be a statement. Beat a Purdue team you are favored by 13 over? Meh.

I would like to play standard Fitz football against a lesser team. Get a comfortable lead and then go conservative. Burn clock and don't try to run up the score. A game where the starters were resting in the 4th quarter would be very nice.

HOWEVER, Purdue can play and they can put up points. We are NU. Never assume a game will be easy.

Purdue is bad, and if you accept my "unicorn game theory of bad college football teams", then the Boilers exhausted their supply of unicorn games against Nebby (which turned around and unicorned MSU), and are a minimal threat to the Cats.

But the Boilers are coming off a horrendous performance against IL. I expect them to bounce back in terms of effort and focus. I don't think this will be easy. I hope I am wrong.

Agree wholeheartedly.
I'd like to see NU establish a lead in NU ways (run, defend, return) then start throwing downfield. I definitely want to see a game plan that tilts more aggressive.

One way or another, NU plays a lot of cliffhangers.

Forget Balls State, I want to project positive images from our Minny game for this game against the Boilerchickens.

It would be wonderful if this team could effortlessly dial up "big wins" against inferior teams on demand. But, simply put, it doesn't work that way. A win is a win. For those of us who bet, we would obviously like the Cats to cover the spread.

Just win ... if we win the remaining three games, even if we win each by just a point, we will have had a season that exceeded all of our dreams, and the Cats will be playing somewhere sunny, warm and important around New Year's Day!

Inasmuch as I would like to see the Cats pound Purdue this weekend, crushing Purdue hardly makes for a statement.

Crushing Wisconsin in Madison however, like dOSU beat them in Indy last year, would be something of a statement, and I hope for that as well.

Agree, Purdue is no "statement game." Let's just win -- being favored scares heck out of me.

Statement game or Trap game? Hope we come out on fire and not flat. Wisco can wait until next week.

Depends on our injuries. We have Jackson back but di not know about Prater and Thorson and we are pretty beat up on the OL.

Huh? Explain what you mean about "Jackson back". Pat said Thorson will play. From the way he talked about Hall, I doubt Prater will play, but Hall was decent against PSU. Bogus is probably out but Mertz has been decent and looks like Park will be back.

Sorry, meant Harris. Even so, JJ was back to being impressive in the run game and PU has a poor run D.
