I've been working on a passion project to do a statewide rating system based on Wes Colley's work and have my first published results after this past week of games.
What this rating is NOT:
-Predictive of future outcomes (does not take margin of victory into account)
-Biased in any way. No preseason rankings, no school size, etc is taken into account
What this rating is:
-Based on a team's performance THIS YEAR RELATIVE TO THE REST OF THE STATE
-A rating that takes ALL games into account: your opponents game against x, and x's game against y, and y's game against z ALL tie in to your rating.
-Constantly evolving. If something doesn't look right yet, fear not, some teams have played limited in state teams, but as the season goes and the system gets more data further interconnecting schools, the ratings will smooth out.
My hope is that we will be able to compare teams statewide in a fair manner! No subjectivity, no arbitrary "points", just math.
Still working to smooth out issues, unfortunately the website formatting still needs major work, the system may be counting some benefit games that i need to take out, and the numbers in the ranking column may not be accurate as there are many out of state and private schools in the "background" of the table that contribute to the rankings.
My favorite feature, the P4P ranking which takes school size into account, giving us a ranking for the BEST football high school in the state of Virginia Pound 4 Pound!
