Whatever it is, it isn't enough. I'd swap DCs with you guys in a heartbeat right now, and I'd pay you money as part of the deal. I've been impressed with him. That might be the best hire Mullen has made to this point.
I just wish Nutt would receive some pressure to go out and get a good one himself rather than a guy that has no idea that you need to change what you do based on the offense you're facing.
If Mullen were to leave this year or next for some other job, who knows where, then if I'm MSU, I would definitely have Diaz on my short list for replacements.
I'm dying to have a DC that has a little bit of strategy to his system, just a touch.
and the way I understood it is that he hopes we can get to a point where we have continuity in the staff and that Mullen would deserve a statue. He used Frank Beamer as an example.
but I am curious to see how he does in years 2 and 3 of his defense. It's kind of like a pitcher - his stuff the first go around is unreal but let's see him after a few starts.
If Mullen does bail, he's on the short list. If Mullen sticks around and he keeps up the current performance, he'll get picked up by a big name program as DC or perhaps a decent HC job.
I'm glad Florida State's defense is solid - I'd say they would be a legit threat in courting him seeing he graduated from there and also started his coaching career there.
The time to talk statues is after 15 or twenty years. If it ain't a joke, it's a damn stupid thought.
That said, I wouldn't mind seeing us give a more public presence to some kind of hall of honor for our great players and coaches. I really like what USM has on the road by their stadium, with the great names highlighted above the road for all to see on a consistent basis.
isn't it nice to see the AD and the Coach talking and joking around? I remember times when it seemed like the head coaches and LT primarily communicated through the Clarion Ledger beat writer. Seems like Scott actually spends some time with his coaches and with the players.
