"I am also told that the next MSU coach could be paid well enough to be one of the 20 highest paid coaches in the country."

I would imagine another $200k or so would bump that person up the list.

I love how everyone is naming the new head coach the day of the resignation. I am sure Byrne has his list, but he wasnt sure Croom would go so easy until yesterday.

Now how can we be a top 20 program when it comes to salary when we are so broke? Will this new coach accept IO.U.'s?

I'm not gonna name anyone but this news from Robertson leads me to believe it will be someone currently coaching a team that will play in a pretty good bowl game this year.

...Ironic Steve Robertson is a bigshot on a board where one of the main axioms is: "We're a poor school."

A "poor school" so poor it's willing to put a football coach in an upper echelon tax bracket.

I would assume we'll be paying in the $2.5 range. That makes me think we're going after Patterson or Kelly. Certainly someone with a name and HC success. No way do we pay some without HC success at a solid lower level school, like a Dooley, that kind of jack.

(a) the ESPN money
(b) Byrne convincing the "money people" that we can and will be competitive
(c) Seal leaving MSU a large sum of money.

I do not know if the books are wide open, but could LT have been sandbagging the dollars from years gone by?
If he could, that would not surprise me as I've seen it at other schools.

But it is scary if we keep flinging this money around and we never have done something like this before.

about crooms being gone after this season the money simply is not there. BAAAAAAAAAAA! You can book it, crooms ain't going anywhere. BAAAAAAAAAAAA!

That was some of the funniest **** I heard.

No way we can afford it. Now Rosebowl says we will break the bank. I hate that place. I am glad you guys keep up for me.

Now Byrne will hire a real coach and we will begin to recruit for the first time in years and I will have to part ways with money again to be there and enjoy like I used to. The Genespagers need to get ready to enjoy football and no more feel good stories. Those stories need not be front page stories when football is involved.

.....over there have to eat their own words and beliefs about our program than the actual firing of Croom.

This deal may not turn out to be what we hope, but by God we have FINALLY broken the loser chain. We finally hired an AD(thanks Doc) who thinks like a winner and more importantly acts like one. You never know how decisions like this will turn out, but it's a hell of a lot better than sitting on our losing asses and doing nothing.

I will say this...even though Gene, David Murray and Henry Adams (is he actually on staff there?) are complete douchebags, I think Steve does a great job with recruiting and shoots it straight.
