Steve Robertson wrote a great article on Nickoe Whitley....

Agree. I bashed Nickoe's coverage ability from time to time, but what he did toward the end of the season on a bum knee was amazing.

Do you wish, as a fan, we would have known about Whitley's injury? But if we did, we would have wondered why Mullen was still playing him while he struggled.

he would've been targeted...........

had it been known, even more so than he was. Might have ended up with a much more serious injury. I think the lesson here is that there might be a reason somebody's struggling. Posters might want to rethink what they write in the future. Maybe a guy lost a loved one (Dak). Maybe a guy is hiding an injury (Nickoe, Banks). Maybe a guy has a rather serious personal problem but is still playing.

Nickoe's story shows how easy it is to judge a player without really knowing him--perhaps because he comes from a bad school, has tats, and hits hard.

You mean the way a certain fan base calls Nickoe a thug despite never being arrested multiple times, never doing time in jail, never getting suspended for flipping off fans, and never being stopped with cocaine and pot?

Well, that article made me feel like a real jackass.

Happy for that dude. I had forgotten about the high school injury.

That also tells you something good about Dan, since he honored the commitment of a scholarship. And Nickoe worked out just fine for the Dawgs. Wish we had him for the bowl game, but at least he was there for the regular season.

I had a neighbor many years ago who was an All-American high school player. The Bear offered him a scholarship, then he got permanently injured in his freshman year in practice, before he played a single game. But the Bear kept his scholarship throughout the 4 years of college. Of course, scholarships were unlimited then, but it was still a good thing for him to do.

Definitely them, but some of us have done it too. I know I was surprised by his master's degree--just because he didn't fit my stereotypes. But why should I have been?

Holy **** man. I just went over there and tried to read it.

I've never seen "redneck classless thug" used so many times in one sitting. No wonder I stay away from there and genes.

The Bear fans should be 17ing ashamed.

It is comical that they get all up in arms about Nickoe yet Wallace was a **** talking jackass all season. Plus they love Marshall Henderson. Fins Up you bitches.

This is why I am enjoying this win so much. Those bastards have been chirpy all year. They are blown away that we won, so every reason under the sun has been thrown out there. Unaccountable bitches.

I was surprised to find out the injury happened in the OSU game. State basically lost both safeties in that game.
I really question the coaching staff if they knew both starting safeties were injured in the first game of the year and they did not move Cox back to safety.

I think most people knew Whitley was not 100% sometime around the LSU game. The question that should be asked is "what changed?" He started playing better in the TAMU game. Did he learn how to play with the injury? The coaches adjusted? He healed significantly?

Screw them! It was Wallace that head butted Whitley out of bounds, then got the benefit of a penalty. I'm sure that influenced Whitley's response at the end of the game. Every time Wallace ran the ball, he got up and did something to either mouth, or toss the ball at the defender, etc.

I took a couple of random electives that he was in or had the time slot right before me, and out of the 10+ football players in that class or mine Nickoe was always present. To boot he was one of the few who didn't mess around in class.

I too had the wrong idea of him at first. I mean come on, he has neck tats and his entire body is scribbled on... (check is twitter)

Goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover, and we fans don't know the whole story. Nickoe was one of my favorite players over the last couple of years because he just straight up murdered fools. If I remember correctly it was him who knocked an Auburn WR (and himself) out cold. If he wants to play in the National Football League he's going to have to tone it down. Not only will he ruin his body quick, he'll be thrown out of the league.

I've

never understood the hate. I have always thought he was an awesome safety. Yeah, his coverage skills when lined up on slot wrs were lacking, but many safeties are in that spot.

Is there any chance Nickoe can have a miraculous recovery from his ACL surgery and play in the bowl game?

Nickoe is a bad mother17er...

His wallet says bad mother17er. I've said before and I mean it, don't care who Bama, LSU, UGA, etc has in thier secondary. None of them can carry Whitley's jock. He flat out blew 17ers up.

I've liked him since the fumble he caused at the goal line against UGA to give us the win in 2010 I think.

Always hated to see the negative comments about him on message boards.

Unfortunately

Always hated to see the negative comments about him on message boards.

there are a ton of idiots in this world. Nickoe is/was the man. As lightly recruited as he was, he was a hell of a lot better than some of our more sought after defenders in the past (Dapoo).

We talked to Nickoe's dad after the Egg Bowl...

...at the time, we didn't know Nickoe had stripped the ball, and apparently Mr. Whitley had just found out. He was incredibly excited.
