Unfortunately, I think he is most likely Louisville’s to lose. It is interesting that his visit was not announced in advance, at least that I am aware of.

He would be a great get. Not sure if he can shoot the three. But he does everything else offensively very well. He would kill it in a 5 out system designed to maximize your strengths like Pope’s.

I don't think Stokes is Louisville's to lose. I will concede that his family are UL fans. I will further concede he is UL's top target and Kelsey is sure to slobber all over him. But Stokes attends school in California and is around other great players who will attend top programs. I think he will consider all of his primary options carefully, and this may come down to NIL.

That is a joke. Louisville won like 5 games the year before last. Kelsey came in and remade that roster and was 27-8, 18-2 in the ACC. It was one of the best coaching jobs in the NCAA last year. He had injuries as well. Pryor, Johnson, Waterman and Traore all were injured a large part of last year.

I get it. It is Louisville. You don’t want to give them any credit. But you lose credibility, when you say they suck or were not good last year, even with major injury issues like us.
You can have all my credibility. Louisville sucks! 😁

I am a UK fan. Have always loved the Cats. But I try to be objective. They were one of the 20 best teams in the regular season. That is a good season for a team that struggled for the last few years to even have a winning record. Whether you agree or not, most pundits have them in the top 10 this year. Kelsey has done well in HS and Portal recruiting. He may fall flat this year. But, he has done everything right up to now and is a hell of a recruiter. That is my main point. If he gets one advantage in recruiting, he is going to exploit that to his advantage.

I think they had a pretty solid turn around. Only so much you can do in one year. But, I think that top20 mark was more due to beating easy opponents. Thats how you move up in the polls and its not very metric-driven: once youre 25th, and the 4 teams ahead of lose (teams playing harder opponents), you're going to move up be default and land around 22 or 21. Thats a very big reason why UofL was able to move up. They simply didnt lose much and when other teams did, they jumped those teams. If Princeton did this, they'd have jumped as well.

Its splitting hairs, but the metrics seem to think they were closer to a top30 team. Again, not a huge difference, but that 10-rank swing signals they weren't quite as close to being any real threat to do much in March. They were four spots ahead of UNC in Kenpom, and behind St. Mary's. Thats kind of the grouping I think they belonged in. Instead of in the UK/SJU/Mizz range.

That said, still a big turnaround and I think Kelsey might be the right hire for them.

I watched them win 27 games with a garbage schedule and conference, get their asses beaten by UK, and then listened to them lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Creighton.

Kelsey is good. I will not take that away from him. The guy is even pretty likeable. That said, he's not at UK. We have so much to offer despite no real recent success outside of last year — Louisville doesn't have half of that. We have better trophy cases than entire other conferences (don't quote me on that. I'm being hyperbolic). We have insane boosters and fans. We have the best exposure. Our university has the broader network of alumni and former players.

Louisville's last great season was 2013*, and I'm not sure how anyone can try to state otherwise.
Its mostly about money nowadays.. Most of today's kids don't put much stock in trophy cases and all that.. Why UK needs to have 10-12+ million every year..

Any news about the visit? Weird we didn’t know the number one player in the country was doing an official until he was here or maybe I’m wrong about that. Any pics videos post on his social media? Anything lol?

This kid will and can kill it in any coaches system. Pope's system is good but not exclusive. Many coaches in 2025 ran similar style. He will shine in any program.

There will be dozens of schools that will have 10 to 12 million plus every year. We can't outbid everyone so we must offer more than $$$$. It is still called recruiting.

'Dozens' in the $10-12 million range might be a stretch. How much people were spending on their rosters was a pretty hot topic by everyone covering college hoops during the portal season, and most seemed to agree that there were only a handful of teams spending that much on rosters this time around. Kentucky, Arkansas, BYU, Duke, Michigan, Louisville, and St. John's were the teams you most often heard were working in that NIL range.

Pope works in stealth mode and I like it! Hope the visit went well hopefully we can pull the kid in but no worries Pope will get the players that want to play here.

Like I said I am not sure how accurate it is, but I´m sure you can google and find articles about the families gang ties. Which was the reason for him to have relocated so often.
Only a UL fan would tout “gang ties” as a reason for a player to attend their school.

It was on this message board that is was brought up, and I went back and did some research on the topic. Don´t believe me do your own research. Look back at the thread ¨Stokes postpones visit to UK¨ A UK fan brought it up, and like I said I did some internet research. Which it could all be hear say and could all be rumors. The gang ties rumors are the reason he WOULD NOT be attending Louisville, as in he does not want to come back to the city.
