We hiked the grand canyon south rim last May. If you want to know how scared I was, watch this video.

what would suck about that job the most is finally getting to top and realizing you forgot some tool that you needed. That would by my luck.

I jumped off the Sky Tower in Auckland, NZ a couple years ago. 192 meters or 630 feet. I was told it is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. It was an incredible experience, but I'm sort of a thrill-seeker and I love heights.

Even so, that video was pretty wild.

but not sure if it'd be worth the extra weight and potential to get snagged while your climbing. I think when your base jumping, you have to make sure you get some space from what ever you are jumping off of and have to make sure you are oriented the right way when you pull the chute. I'd sure as hell want one though

..and that tower is about 4x taller than the cell towers used in MS. Not sure about other kinds of towers, but I think there is nothing remotely that high around here.

That said...once you're above about 100 feet, it really doesn't matter if you're at 110 feet or 10,000 feet.

Check out the view from the top of the Dubai Tower. It is about 2,700 feet - about 1,000 feet taller than that tower climbing video.

My old roommate was a contract supervisor for Cell South. He introduced me to some of his contractors that built and maintained the towers. I agree with the effin crazy part. They would only use a safety line if there was someone on the job site watching them. That plus they popped a lot of pills and smoked a lot of dope while doing it. </p>

... This isn't that impressive. Not trying to sound like a prick, but he was using a ladder (of sorts). Plus he took an elevator the first 1600 feet if I heard right. Regrding him chilling on just the caribener, people FALL on protection that is nothing more than a piece of metal smaller than you're fingernail.
For REALLY crazy ****, look up any video featuring Dan Osman or Dean Potter.

would paint the cranes. the highest point of any of the summers on the cranes was about 350 or so feet. we'd climb up the pedestal, get out on the boom, and then walk to the end of the crane. then they'd turn it on and swing us out over the water. you see, the crane was being painted yellow and the rig was a metallic color. the rig manager didn't want yellow paint on his pretty metallic rig floor. since the boom was hanging out over the rig, any wind that we had that day would make it bounce like crazy out there (the further out the more bounce of course).

we never wore our hard hats because it wouldn't matter and because the wind would blow them off. we were told to wear our life vests so that they could find our bodies if we fell from that height into the water.

i thought we were crazy for being out there painting at 350 feet. it was monkey work and required little thinking other than "don't fall". i can't even come close to imagining the climb to the top of that damn tower to do something that requires thinking skills. all i would be thinking about is the clean pair of under wear i had at the bottom of the tower.

Would be so INTENSE. You'd have time to actually accept your death as it is happening. <div>
</div><div>You'd go through all 5 stages on the way down: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and finally, Acceptance. Although it may not be in that particular order andyou may skip through Bargaining. Then again, I've heard of people falling out of airplanes and surviving. Just ball up and pray, I suppose. <div>
</div><div>Would it be better to hit some trees to break the fall, or just plough into Mother Earth? Mothers are expected to be nurturing...</div></div>

I don't care if he rode a wheelchair up a safety ramp to the top. For people that are afraid of heights, that is quite a feat.

in those that are used to heights and those that are not. Of course
doing that would scare the **** out of a normal person, 99.9% of people
are naturally uncomfortable with exposed heights, even climbers. All I
was trying to say was that if you think this is crazy as hell, check
out these videos (for the uneducated, a 5.12b is a VERY hard climb)

to replace the bulbs when they would go out.

I was paid $1 per foot that I climbed. I cant do it anymore due to a back injury, but I must say, it was quite peaceful up there.
