In response to Mojo
I saw it on about 3-4 possessions although on a couple of them it looked to me as if JW was upset at his guards because they took it in too deep, no mans land if you will, and we're easily swatted by the big guys.

I'm sure, whether it's Cal/UK or JW/Nova it's a combination of the coach saying run some clock & the players getting too careful & deliberate. The thing that makes our Wisconsin ending look sorta bad is the possessions where we didn't even get a shot off at all.
I think what you saw was the possession around 2 minutes left where Archie had an open look with 5 seconds left passed up the shot passed the ball to Hart and he got stuffed at the rim. Only time all tournament I saw Wright say a negative word to Archie but he lit him up for passing up the open look.

I thought that as well. But then again, Villanova played at a pretty deliberate pace all night, so it wasn't like they were doing anything out of the ordinary. Even when it looked they may have had an advantage after a rebound, they were still walking the ball up court. I don't remember any fast breaks from them at all.
It's true, they never go all out. Their philosophy is like many teams: if you can get the break, take it, otherwise deliberate.

I made the point over the weekend that I think Roy is pretty unique among elite coaches in that he puts pressure on the other team with offense rather than defense. He doesn't disregard defense (no Hal Mumme or Paul Westhead) but his philosophy is we're going to score, let's see if you can keep up. All other elite coaches want to exert their will and on the defensive end. Cal is that way, Pitino is that way, Izzo is that way, K (mostly) is that way, etc. And so they all - other than Roy - have this propensity to slow the game down if they have a lead at the end and be deliberate and reduce the other teams' possessions and minimize the chances for a comeback. Reading this board, you get the impression that only Cal does it......

Only problem I had was that I thought with 5 minutes left and up 10 Nova should not have even attempted a field goal but just started driving and drawing fouls. They are a very good free throw shooting team. But they missed a fair number of them while they were shooting well, so Wright may very well have told them to just keep running the offense. What let UNC back in the game was their press that bothered Arcidiacono and forced three turnovers.

Wright is an elite coach who has had some bad luck with draws in the tournament. UNC has knocked him out 3 times and last year NC State just had too many athletes and Novas guys fell in love with the outside shot and didn't hit them. That stuff happens to the best of coaches, as we well know.

And some of you are taking this way too personally.

Never did I say he doesn't deserve praise.

What I am saying, is the people going overboard, calling for him to be cals replacement, need to check thensrlves

What bothers you about the idea of him being Cal's replacement?

He was easily top 15 before this season. A NC should boost him into the top 10.
I would absolutely feel good about Wright steering the ship.

His reaction at the end reminded me of Al McGuire's when Marquette won. "Well, that's that." He seemed about as stirred as if he'd just finished a crossword puzzle. Which is cool. I can get tired of the rah rah, too.

Man, some of you guys take things way too literally.

Guarantee if the thread title was. "Nova players deserve more credit" this would be a conversation with most of you that are disagreeing would be agreeing.

And it wasn't that he was pissed.. he was nervous and had a defeatist look. Many of you said it during the game

I gotta agree with the thought of mixing in some back up defenses. It takes work as a coach. UK needs to work in that direction. Vilanova really well coached. Polished team. Will be good again next year. All their players are multi skilled.
