Look, fact is he just missed it! It happens. Maybe bad field, snow, etc. affected him. But bottom line he just missed it and missed the EP a few minutes Later. He probably blew the Guy award with today’s performance, though his punting was excellent IIRC.
YEP, EVIDENTLY TIME WILL GET JAMES ON TRACK. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY YRS YOU THINK HAVE LEFT IN YOUR LIFE, MINE....MAYBE 10. I HOPE JAMES LEARNS SOONER THAN 10 YRSSo just run the click down and take a five yard penalty, distance certainly wasn’t an issue and you get a better angle on the kick!
I don't think so. I doubt his FG kicking has anything to do with the Ray Guy award, they have a separate one for Field Goals called the Groza award.Look, fact is he just missed it! It happens. Agree with the last part but his FG kicking has nothing to do with his punting and the Guy award. He does not deserve the Guy award this year based on his awful place kicking. He arguably personally lost two games for us!
He’s not even close punting wise to the kid from San Diego State. Having the best season in NCAA history probably. Something like a 52.2 net average.Agree with the last part but his FG kicking has nothing to do with his punting and the Guy award.

It was a dumb decision. Teams call timeout to ice the kicker for a reason. Ever play golf?, more you think about a shot the less accurate you are. When he called it I said that is not good. Especially when it is freezing!!Nobody ices their own kicker like James
He has done it before, don't think it workout then either.Nobody ices their own kicker like James

Agree. CJF undoubtedly makes some bad coaching moves during the season. But I wouldn't include this one, nor the decision to punt on 4th and 1 early in the game, among them. At some point the players have to do their job. Stout needs to just make the kick. On the flip side, he makes a beautiful punt to the 1 yard line on the 4th down play. The defense doesn't do their job and allows a 35 yard run on the next play. The TV cut to Stout right before the TO. He was looking at the sky. He wasn’t ready and knew he wasn’t going to kick it. Now maybe he was “frustrated” by not just going out and kicking it. IDK. He’s a Div. 1 placekicker, that’s a chip shot! Fact is, Stout missed several kicks this year that would have put us in better position to win or win easier. Does anybody here think Stout is almost automatic on FGs? I personally do not. Did we not pass on a FG attempt later in the game (as did MSU)?

The players have to take some of the heat for this stuff, too. Sometimes we (myself included) use CJF as an easy scapegoat ... but if the players make the plays on some of the questionable coaching decisions, they are no longer "questionable."
Stop the BS. The TO didn't have a damn thing to do with the missed FG; Stout once again missed a critical FG plain and simple. Maybe some of you could explain to me how Franklin caused Stout to miss the PAT too. My god is Franklin the reason that dinosaurs are extinct too?It was a dumb decision. It's gotten beyond ridiculous. Some people don't like that he crosses his arms. Others don't like that he put his finger up to signal 1 for the PAT after the last TD. I watched for that in other games and every coach did it, even in the most obvious situations. That's just what they do. They signal either 1 or 2 after each TD.Stop the BS. Thanks. There is legitimate things to criticize Franklin about, but this constant whining and blaming every mistake or failure to make plays on the field on Franklin is really getting stale. It's gotten beyond ridiculous. But it seems like anytime someone has a gripe, you attack and use inflammatory language like "stop the BS" and "get over yourself."Thanks. There ARE legitimate things to criticize Franklin about, and the number one thing is he is a crappy coach. Name one thing he's good at and defend your argument.Thanks. So if true. Why do teams call timeout when the other team is kicking? Hmmm??Stop the BS. The TO didn't have a damn thing to do with the missed FG; Stout once again missed a critical FG plain and simple. Maybe some of you could explain to me how Franklin caused Stout to miss the PAT too. Watching the reply Franklin called the time out with 6 seconds left on the play clock. Seems odd to me. If he were trying to leave them with as little time as possible wouldn't he have waited a little long to call a TO? Maybe to 3 seconds. How may times has 3 seconds made a difference in a game? I remember that Michigan game where they put a second back on the board and it cost us the game. Remember that?
If what James said about why he called the time out is true then we have another issue with his decision making. He wasted running off 5 more seconds. It is odd as coaches usually stand next to the ref and tell them they want the TO with one second left. Works every time.
Wait, what? Franklin did the dinosaurs? The Yucatán asteroid thingy? And we gave him a contract extension anyway?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?Stop the BS. The TO didn't have a damn thing to do with the missed FG; Stout once again missed a critical FG plain and simple. Maybe some of you could explain to me how Franklin caused Stout to miss the PAT too. ...and yet a random "iced" kicker makes it more often than not despite such time outs taken by the opposing team, rendering such time outs to typically be ineffective attempts at psychological warfare. So if true. Why do teams call timeout when the other team is kicking? Hmmm??
to ice the damn kicker and make him think about the kick!!!
So stop with excuses why Franklin would call a timeout once again when it is the wrong time.
He also had a field goal kicker in pinegar. So once again his decision as coach. Stop blaming the player!!
It is not stouts fault. It is franklins. No different than if a qb threw an interception or a receiver dropped a pass. So lay off stout. Without him we could have more losses....and yet a random "iced" kicker makes it more often than not despite such time outs taken by the opposing team, rendering such time outs to typically be ineffective attempts at psychological warfare.
Further, as great of a punter and kickoff specialist as Stoudt is, he makes every single extra point a nerve racking experience, let alone field goals.
Let's not overthink this; Stoudt missed the 2 kicks independently of "getting nervous" during the timeout. In fact, as ILLINOISLION posted above, apparently he has missed field goals in seven different games this season, and there would be justifiable concern about ANY kick.
Justified criticisms would thus be some of those shared above: "why not wait until 1 second on the play clock to call it"...ok, fair based on CJF's explanation that he wanted to use clock...
...or as you yourself say "why not use Pinegar for shorter kicks?"...that is also fair...
...but nevertheless based on the pre-existing accuracy concerns, coupled with the fact that the effectiveness of "icing" a kicker is largely a myth, it is very reasonable to conclude that that particular timeout was completely inconsequential to the undesirable outcome of Stoudt's field goal attempt.
Please explain how having a smaller angle while still having a very short kick wouldn't be better....and yet a random "iced" kicker makes it more often than not despite such time outs taken by the opposing team, rendering such time outs to typically be ineffective attempts at psychological warfare.
