I have been very impressed with Stratton so far though, he is putting on a clinic out there.

We are still making decent contact with the ball, sooner or later that contact has to turn into runs.

that Cohen had said leading up to the season. I think we are more of a contact team, instead of a power team, and I assumed the new bats would not have a huge effect on us like they would a team that relied on power.

but at least up until yesterday, we were hitting better than last year's team at this point in time.

pitching like the past 2 weeks, you can't help but like our starting staff. Middle relief may still be a question due to not being tested but I see dramatic improvement in the overall pitching staff even if it has been against pretty low competition. Stratton's stats are flat outgawdy no matter the opponent. If we can just find enough offense to put up 5-6 runs a game, I like our chances most time out.

Reed, Pollerena, Graveman or Girodo- whichever one doesn't start, Evan Mitchell, CC Watson looked OK, Hunter Renfroe, and Daryl Norris- we have some options that I feel OK with.

Up 5-0 in the ninth. Not saying that pitching Diaz was a bad idea- just that it would have been the type of situation to throw Renfroe.

we can match up right vs right and left vs left out of the pen. One thing we do have is a nice mix in that regard. I am very concerned with our bats though, even going back to fall and spring practice. The stats/numbers put up during the scrimmages seem to be in line with what we're seeing in the live games.

I had been hearing Girodo or Busby, but I had not heard a final decision. I would guess Girodo.

about small ball. With a home run, you can conceivably score four runs instantly on one swing. Small ball you have to create- and that can be hard to do sometimes.

What's encourging to me is that we are putting the ball in play and not striking out a whole lot- we had more walks than strikouts today, I believe, so that's a very positive thing.

The batting average being higher at this time than last year stat can be misleading because hits don't necessarily translate into runs. It also tells me that the issue isn't so much that our hitters aren't bad as much as they have very little power. Our slugging percentage is probably lower than it was at this time last year if I had to bet.

The lack of power really isn't all that surprising. Fortunately our pitching and defense appear to be much better than last year, and that's going to help us beat some people. The power will come later- I wouldn't be surprised if Daryl Norris ends up leading us in home runs. Dudy-Noble has always been hard to hit the ball out of during this time of the year.

....tomorrow is a huge game, and you need that experience. We've got to take this series to feel like we are progressing as a program.

Cohen is still experimenting. Shepherd made some big plays out there today in centerfield. He's an excellent defensive player out there.

Just because I think he's the best option. Cohen will probably go with Girodo. I think Busby is more of a relief guy than anything.

Right now, I agree- Jaron is our best CF. He may have some attitude issues, but if he produces and helps the team, so be it- as long as he doesn't pull the kind of crap the basketball team has been doing. I've always thought he was better defensively than Brownlee and to be fair to me, I also called for him to start yesterday as well.

I do agree that we need to take this series. We may be throwing our third guy, but so will Belmont.
