and is strong through eight innings. He appears to be out to start the ninth with 139 pitches thrown: I think he should have been pulled after eight, but I saw a North carolina pitcher today throw 140 pitches. Seems to be going on everywhere.

And I actually think it might get "worse"- depending on how you look at it- as the Nolan Ryan plan starts to come into vogue. I think it's a good thing. I've always felt like pitchers were somewhat protected too much. It's sort of like distance running. You don't train for a three mile race by preparing to run two miles. (At least I don't)

I think pitch count should be based more on age and the individual and says of rest between starts more than anything.
