Well, if Loggains struggles and Riley does well, our fan base will lose their collective you know what.
How can Riley NOT succeed in the ACC? Clemson has something on both sides of the ball that TCU did not have - speed. UGa's defense exposed Riley's TCU offense from the kickoff until the final whistle blew.

Still doesn't mean Clemson will 'return to power' under Riley, but anyone would have been an improvement over Streeter.

Dabo ain’t messing around, that’s for sure.

And TCU is done.

I don’t know how much stock you put into the way his offense performed in the one game against an SEC team.

And should. When UPC goes outside, they go big. Plus, there's an element of unease building up there. They feel ACC dominance and national relevance slipping away. They'll do whatever it takes to reassert themselves. I give them credit for that.

The nations top coordinator, right?

And they actually have a qb now. Might not be mind blowing, but they won't waste any more snaps on that ukulele kid.

Not a good combo (for us).

The last time Clemson really struggled, it was issues on defense, and they went out and brought in Venables, and the rest is history. I hope history doesn’t repeat itself.

At least, if it goes well, it will only be a two or three year gig before he takes a head coaching position. Shoot, it may only be one year if their offense explodes.

That was an amazing 188 yards of total offense that GR put on Georgia in the NC game. LOL.

And that was with Georgia's entire starting defense eating chicken wings on the sidelines most of the 4th quarter. LOL LOL

The Loggains hire was just elevated from "has to succeed" to “absolutely positively has to be successful Year 1.”

Nice splash hire. This guy has a Brother as Southern California as a HC and is fast tracking on becoming one himself. The bad news for Clemson is he may only be there a year. If he gets a lot out of that offense next year he's getting an offer from a very good program and he'll bolt.

It’s called talent gap

I was curious when you typed this, so I looked it up. The last 4 years, their recruiting ranking was 60, 63, 19 and 29.

To be fair, there aren't many teams that don't have a talent gap with uga.

I really don't think Beamer would give a damn about our reaction. Maybe it's just me but he strikes me as sort of arrogant.

clemson got a good one in Riley. If OCs were stocks, Riley would be considered a "blue-chipper". Loggains would be considered an "underperformer". Nothing wrong with going the "underperformer" way, as sometimes it works out. I usually invest in blue-chip stocks. But, this morning, I did buy a stock considered an "underperformer", one with a lot of potential. But, I invested exactly 0.28% of 1% of my portfolio on it, limiting my risk. Beamer, on the other hand, signed Loggains to a 3-year deal. Hopefully, he will work out.

In the meantime, I will be shocked if Riley is at clemson more than 2 seasons.

We will have to see how it all plays out, but the optics are terrible right now. We needed an OC and hired someone nobody had ever heard of. Clemson needed an OC and hired the biggest name in the market.

UGA just ate TCU alive, and Clemson just picked their bones. Poor team.

clemson fans are excited. I'm kind of envious, not so much because they got Riley. I'm envious because clemson proves again they will do whatever is necessary to win big. We, on the other hand....... Do you ever get the feeling that the college football world is a tuxedo, and Carolina is a pair of loafers?

2.5 million per year . Highest paid OC is what I have been told. We shall see if it helps them get past 11 wins.

Yeah, Dabo ain't messing around.

None of us will ever know what went on with our OC search...did we even look into Riley? I'd imagine he's out of our league, but I'd love to know who all we considered.

Dabo just went straight to the top.

Short term fix, because he won't be there long if successful - unless he's Daboo's replacement!

Agreed. But he'll only move on if he's showing success or improvement.

If he was here, I'd say that I'd exchange a short term OC for the success he brought that allowed him to move up.

Yep. Clemson fans are aware this is a short-term gig. But, at least one fan I texted with, said "whatever we're paying him, it's worth it if we beat y'all this season."

That's part of what separates us from Clemson at the moment. They will pay what they have to pay to get who they want to take them to the next level.

I sometimes wonder if we are serious about producing a big-time football program. I too would have preferred and loved to have Riley rather than Loggains. I will happily admit though that Beamer exceeded expectations in both seasons here. So whether I want to or not, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt on his hire of Loggains.

I also am trusting Beamer knows what he's doing. Even before Clemson hired Riley, the Loggains hire was absolutely critical. That Beamer was more or less willing to stake his job on Loggains gives me some confidence. The Riley hire just amps up the intensity of the "it has to work" aspect of the Loggains hire. Inevitably though, even if our offense improves, if Clemson's offense explodes, our fans will feel shortchanged.
