According to my source, who is always on the money with his info, in their end of the year meeting Scott Stricklin told Rick Stansbury that he has to fire two of his assistant coaches before next season. My source also said that Rick will be talking to coaches this weekend at the Final 4 to find some good guys for our program.

Take it for what its worth, but my source is usually right on the money or pretty close. What two assistant coaches do you guys think we cut ties with? It wouldn't surprise me if Cunningham moves to another job. Not sure if Brooks or Grant will be the other.

He also told me that our players are to be on a new weight program that started last week. If you follow guys like Dee Bost and Arnett Moultrie on Twitter you will see where they are commenting about weights and workouts every day.

Come to think of it, that's all he's really done the last several years anyway - taking calls from idiots like coastdawgbreezelover.

you dont make a coach hire new assistants, and then keep him if he underachieves yet another season.

Thank you SS- Byrne taught you well

Coach, should we go after X's and O's guys or young energetic recruiters ala Angelo Mirando in football?
I wonder if there are any names being mentioned? I know there are some good assistants out there. Arkansas, Ga Tech, NC State, Missouri, etc assistants would love to get a job in the SEC as compared to not having a job. One of Arkansas' assistants named Ostrum was responsible for recruiting most of their top recruiting class that signed with them this fall.

I hope this proves to be true, but my source is almost always on the money.

Cunningham simply isn't very good except at answering the phone, and Brooks does nothing.

The real million dollar question is will Stansbury actually hire good assistants? What I hope he realizes is that even if he hires a guy that is better at X's and O's than him, that he will still get credit for it- see Tex Winters and Phil Jackson.

I just cant see him bringing in assts and suddenly letting them coach- will be interesting to see who he brings in and if he lets them do anything...He's an idiot if he doesnt- If you watch Grant at Bama- he's got that older white asst he discusses everything with during TO's- you can see those 2work together well. The Recruiter seriously needs someone like that and needs to listen to them

****, I'm more excited about the change in the strength program- that sounds like something that will definitely change- that will do nothing but help us. It will make our guys better athletes, and it will also make them mentally tougher.

The REAL million dollar question is 'Are there any assistants that are worth a damn that would come work for Stansbury?'

finding good assts. msu basketball is a good job and i assume ya'll will pay at least credibly competitive salaries. the question is.....will stansbury make the right hires. IMO that's the same question about bianco for us. will they give up control and let a good asst coach? some won't and can't. some (like billy brewer) won't hire anybody that knows more than they do. time will tell

Brooks was hired to get Hood to sign with us, so he is not going anywhere... Cunningham is a big-time recruiter for Stands and has been called our "bag man" before..
I don't doubt the new emphasis on weights b/c I discussed that with Scott last year..
I hope you are right about this, but could be an April Fools prank.....

Yep, not firing a former player in Grant, not firing Cunningham, and definitely not firing Brooks who we just brought in. Although, I really want the scoop on what we brought Brooks in for? Just for Hood?

I could see us cutting ties with Talvis Jackson or whatever his name is. He is the short Ast coach, and I think he is in charge of player operations. I could see us easilyreplace him with abetter coach who may be anX's and O's guy.

you do realize that D1 Teams are only allowed three Asst Coaches, and that the Dir of Ops is not allowed to coach, right? If you were correct, which I seriously doubt you are, then it would have to be either Cunningham, Brooks or Grant.

because that would seem Stanshas been givena very shortleash time wise on achieving at a much higher level. If an asst has a good thing why would he even think about coming to MSU with the idea that the head guy could be gone whichin allprobability would mean he goes, too? I do not buy this.
