Never understood a strike at this time of year. Either start the school year with a contract in place, or don't start the school year.

If you are a union negotiator, why agree to start the year with a contract that the district doesn't feel pressured to offer? Using the possibility of kids missing football playoffs as leverage to put pressure on the district will result in more concessions for the teachers.

It's a union thing.

I think they use football as leverage.I grew up on the South Burbs & so many seasons lost for Richards,Eisenhower,Shepard as well as the Tinley Park school district and a few others.Marshall Illinois in fact one year forfeited a playoff game one year due to a teacher strike.1987 CPS only had 1 rep due to a strike

The district does not negotiate over the summer. Can’t motion for a strike without the negotiation process taking place. Real funky situation

Also, the year was started in “good faith” to avoid a strike. Would you rather the year started forfeiting games? When’s a “good” time to strike? The idea was to start the year and not have the kids miss any school or games.

Taxes have absolutely skyrocketed in Plainfield the last ten years despite home prices dropping. Are the teachers aware of this?

Home prices have nothing to do with property taxes going up. All based on how much the people you elected want to get to fund the schools.

The year before the Tornado Plainfield had a good football team. They finished 5-4 and should have gotten in the playoffs. They were on strike a week and forfeited to a team they would have killed so 6-3 would have been their record. The Tornado was the worst thing to ever happen to Plainfield. It was such a nice place not too big not too small that exploded after the Tornado as everyone wanted to leave trouble spots to live safely in a nice little farm town.Sadly though no town is perfect plainfield has gang issues now not bad really but.......

The county has been assessing homes in my neighborhood at 25% above their actual selling price. Most of the taxes go to the school district, so somebody is getting an unfair amount.

If a team wins a playoff game and goes on strike for the following week, is a forfeit awarded or does the defeated team advance instead?

Word from this I know who work in 202 is the tentative agreement has no chance of passing the vote...just a small number of people. Hope they are wrong- can’t deal with kids home all day...my groceries will go thru the roof LOL!

I think you have to ask, if the teachers haven't gotten a raise in five years, but the property taxes are skyrocketing, where is all the money going?

I've been asking that same question in the Lincoln way district for years but then you all know our story...

Or at least part of it...

My property taxes have not been skyrocketing. Not sure about no raises in five years, but that sounds questionable as well.

2014-15
2015-16
2016-17

Those 3 contracts are identical for most steps, last step for each level of education increases by a small amount

I live in Plainfield now. Moving back to Joliet to save on taxes. With the amount I will save it will pay half the tuition a year for a kid at JCA.

Teachers voted in favor of the agreement.

The Board of Education is expected to vote on the tentative agreement at its November 6, 2017 regular meeting.

No expense was spared on the Planfield North grounds I saw during a recent game visit. The stadium was top-shelf including a nice video board built into the scoreboard and sprawling visitors bleachers. The parking lots surrounding the building could have landed a jumbo jet, too. Actually it might be easier to reach PFN by air than car next time.

True in many schools, not so true in some others.

The school I know the kids have less parental involvement than most in the state. Teachers are not replacing parents. It sounds good but it really isn't happening. I would say 10 to 20 percent of teachers may go the extra mile and provide guidance in a real bad situation however, the rest just hide behind the statistics. I don't really get into what their pay should be but pretending like every teacher in every building is going the extra mile and then some is no where close to accurate.

Unfortunately people only view it as one or the other. Either you are a very concerned teacher or you do absolutely nothing. Most are in the middle which is provide a solid education to those willing to learn.

I don’t remember the last time read something that put down the difficult job that people do than that right there. Pretty astonishing, to say the least, with the amount of educators that frequent this board.

I believe all four schools got the same video board when the new field turf was installed.

There are very few teachers that do the job of parents.

I would say with some exceptions, the teachers who beat the buses out of the parking lot do the bare minimum and typically ***** the most about pay and their job. The ones who coach or run large activities are the ones you will normally find going out there way in situations where there is little parental involvement.
