I hate beating the dead horse of the $22M price tag, but it does blow my mind that we spent all that money and still have extremely limited contingency plans if a guard goes down. You need elite guard play to win in March, so the roster building for this season is going to keep getting more perplexing as the dust continues to settle.
How do you know 22 million was spent....All that is only speculation because no one knows the nil money spent. Yet people keep posting that number as a fact.....smh

Pretty disgusting folks using this injury to attack the coach. Disgusting but expected from that bunch.

Lowe needs to take care of his body, if this is true. Thanks for trying big guy. Pope has to assemble a point guard using the parts he has on tap. Aberdeen will fill the shoes but backup is needed. This is basketball.

If you listen carefully, you can hear the Pope LOD sharpening their teeth.

According to who? Not doubting you, but there were numerous sources surrounding that number.
That number includes revenue sharing.

Also, I find it difficult to believe Pope would say no to paying more for guys like Wilkerson, but keep Garrison and Noah on the roster. That would be over 1.5 million per player which is ludicrous.

I think they just need to stay afloat until end of January. My feeling is that JQ and JL will be available in Feb. I think they play 8/9 games before the NCAAT.

Break out Brandon Hawthorne and let’s see if he can run the point. Kidding but why red shirt him. I doubt he’s a four year guy

Yep.

It brings Lowe square into play for 2026 PG. Probably PG2, but he's definitely coming back.

Going to have to figure it out with JJ, Aberdeen and Chandler.
If lowe elects surgery that will be a pretty significant sign he isn’t coming back. And this JJ stuff at PG. all I can do is laugh because that kid is not a pg. every one of these smaller pgs will get up and under on the boy.

Assuming it's a torn labrum, he could be back in 3 months.

Could be back mid Feb. he could still be an asset as a change of pace PG to spark the offense.

Defensively, if we need a stop, wouldn't we want Aberdeen guarding the point of attack?
Anyone asking themselves why the first thing at UK is this kid is dislocation his shoulder even though the coaches said it wasn’t dislocated. As a matter of fact I know it wasn’t a dislocation. No dr worth a crap would have cleared the kid before 6 weeks if it were a dislocation. And torn labrum now the guy isn’t a football player. The entire thing stinks to high hell. Not to mention it’s his weak side his right shoulder. How much did we pay Lowe? Anyone have a video of the injury from Tuesday? I saw the other injury the original. Didn’t look like a dislocation nor have anything to do with the labrum. We’ve had enough with player injuries no way would I welcome Lowe back next year. Wheeler level drama

I think oweh is hurt. Something clearly isn’t right with him ya know?
It’s called being burned by the nba. He does not want to be in college. Him and Lowe are salty over not being drafted. That’s why they are the problems right now. Oweh will get it straightened out

And we paid him for this year and next...wonder if Pope has the nuts to go after a better point guard in the portal next year
That Brown kid from Louisville looks good offer him 4 million if nothing else it would make Louisville pay more and hurt their budget for nil

On a side note, I feel your pain man. I know the Titans suck right now but as a Bengals fan, I promise you it can be worse. We have possibly best QB in NFL, definitvely Top5 and cannot keep him healthy to save our lives. It is infuriating.
Bengals defense is as bad as UK’s

Can we get a pg from the G league for Jan enrollment? UL has done it.
Matt Jones pointed out something like this could theoretically be an option on the radio show this morning. Personally, I like the idea. I’m not ready to kick the can to next year, given how much talent and upside I see with this roster. I think Pope should consider any option needed to win this year.

I'd say if he wants to continue to coach at UK, he better. By no means do I think his seat should be hot, that's not what I mean. But he also can't start his UK career doing the 10 loss Tubby thing. Tubby at least started with a natty. He needs to build some equity.

i actually think we should just kinda put it on cruise this season and whatever happens happens, push in the chips for next year with an elite class

I don’t think we are going to lose ten games even without Lowe. I think you’re way too low on this team imo

Maybe...Idk. I know a lot of people like to point to the big wins last season, and that's fair. My concern is, that was a complete anomaly. Reverting back to the norm would be a big issue, but might eliminate the head scratchers too. I'm also extremely cautious in just assuming JQ is going to play. If Lowe is indeed done and JQ either doesn't play or isn't anything close to pre-ACL self, this team will lose 10+ games. I'd bet my house on that one, granted about all I own is the door knobs and sinks at this point. No Lowe and an effective JQ, I can see a world where it loses less than 10. Maybe Cal did this to me, maybe not...but there's not one single (currently) legitimate NBA player on this roster. Talent wins out.

Aberdeen was and IS the contingency plan. I don't know how people keep failing to see that.

We had Acaden Lewis as a contingency plan. He didn't want to compete. If we brought in another PG, they were probably NOT going to get PG minutes over Aberdeen. Who was going to commit for that?

Aberdeen is a good combo guard. He handled the ball a lot for Florida when Clayton was on the bench.

Pope? I’m good extending it right now. I’m not crazy about his pass and jack offense but he has proven more than up to the task. He has the proper ethics for the job. He is also intelligent enough to navigate the utter fecal storm and chaotic cess pool that college basketball has become.

Of course the Pope LOD will try to exploit the injuries but those that actually make decisions will take all aspects into account.

Yeah…I don’t want to spend another day debating with people on here about the “studs” and “talent” thing. For all our flaws versus Louisville defensively, we hit 12 threes and scored 88 points in the first road game of the season. We are a very flawed but good team and yes I think Calipari’s philosophy is stuck prominently in your mind. Continuing to hear JQ isn’t going to play from posters with zero rationale behind it —- because of Cal, who isn’t even the coach here. We are going to be fine . We have plenty of talent and upside.

I personally like Pope and still support him 100%. In all honesty Cal didn't leave anyone when he left outside of Perry .

Our program was in horrible shape as Cal exited and we had not been really relevant for Cals last 5 years. Im going to give Pope some leeway to build our program back.

I do think not having a backup PG was a huge error and pointing that out is legitimate and it doesn't mean your a troll or quitter. Given what we went through last year with injuries I would of thought that Pope would have at least added one backup PG after Lewis de-committed.

I would rather have a back up PG right now versus Potter or Hawthorne. Just my opinion.

I still think we can make a run despite this setback. Go Cats!

I wonder if the way the offense ran through Amari last year is hurting us with PGs. This year so far looks like we’ll run a lot more PnR and look more “standard.”
I doubt it. I think the staff has targeted the wrong guys. No way we should have taken Lewis over Brown last year. And then we didn't get either. They need to do better at gaging interest. Kinney wasted a ****-ton of our time and never had any real interest in going here.

Being fine and being a serious threat for a title are very different. Now we have DA who I love as a starter but no real true PG backup. It doesn't matter to me if Lowe has surgery or not because with that injury he will just be a shell out there.

I don’t agree with the idea that we won’t be a serious title threat if Lowe is out. With DA at point guard, you have size and defense out there at every position. We have an entire season for anyone else on the roster to develop into a solid backup PG or get a European or G-leaguer.
