Pitiful. I love the bitching about us playing quality opponents. Then people leaving when we play inferior opponents. What, exactly, would make these people actually be good fans?

Well to

be honest, it's a really ****** game. I know my opinion isn't popular, but I don't have any interest in seeing us play Alcorn State.

Yep, I'd much rather watch the 2nd half of our 44-0 blowout in the 95 degree heat than see the UGA/USC game.

our fans are there to support team and for entertainment. it was a blowout...is everyone supposed to stick around in 100* weather just to let the players sing while their faces are being blistered?

yeah, cause none of us have ever left any game early. its easy for a west sider to point across the field at the part of the stadium that is still 100% in direct sun on a day where the field temp reaches 120*

this is a non-issue...the game was simply not entertaining at this point.

I don't necessarily have a problem with people leaving on a day like today. But the student section empties on pleasant days in competitive games too.

do they? any current examples? im not trying to be pretentious. im a one game per year guy and watch all the others on tv (while still in school), but it doesnt appear to be a problem for competitive games or mediocre to good teams.

again, im not trying to be a smartass, just trying to get some visual confirmation of some type. if in fact we do leave in competitive games, that is disappointing. i went to a&m last year and the students had thinned a bit when it was 24-0 or whatever it was at halftime, but most were still there despite the drubbing we received. by the middle of the 3rd, it looked bad though.

Students leave early everywhere during games like this. I find it comical that someone thinks this is just a Mississippi State issue.

yeah, ds started that thread and said "halfway through the 3rd quarter"....so at best the score was 24-14. i agree...thats WAY too early to be leaving the game. that said, i dont see this as a particular problem with our student section unless there is a blowout for or against us. its not like we are pulling an ole miss or something.

Then you didn't go to any games last year. The student section was pathetic last year for every game.

The students suck but the atmosphere generated by our music/jumbotron is atrocious. I have been on this soapbox all day. It doesn't excuse students leaving competitive games at all, but damn we sure as hell don't try to promote an awesome atmosphere for getting people fired up with the CONSTANT commercials and dead air, only to have music played the last 5 seconds before play resumes. It's terrible terrible terrible.

The only reason I stayed the whole game was because I was in the shade and had enough whiskey to go the distance.

As you take that photo from the shade. I know it's ******, but my ice cold beer was calling me pretty hard after half time too.

As a bandmember I sat through too many hot morning kickoff Jefferson Pilot/Lincoln Financial games to ever complain about anyone roasting in the sun on the east side. Even with sunblock I always enjoyed having the left side of my face sunburned by the time the game was over.

Hell the Alcorn team isn't even on the sidelines yet, I along with a lot of those empty seat holders were down below in the shade. Bring your *** over there and sit in that sun for awhile, you'll calm down. I saw the opening half kick return just fine w/out your supervision. I don't even watch our band on a cool day much less one like yesterday

I haven't seen the band play in several years and I never miss a home game.

Did you just copy and paste the pic from the first half of the Texas A&M game from last year?**

Fixed it for you

As a bandmember I WAS FORCE TO SIT through too many hot morning kickoff Jefferson Pilot/Lincoln Financial games to ever complain about anyone roasting in the sun on the east side. Even with sunblock I always enjoyed having the left side of my face sunburned by the time the game was over.

or you could have just stopped at bandmember...people actually sat through Alcorn's performance but ran like hell when the oh so predictable movie theme songs started to play.

i just see this pic and think how different it is from the east side. im sure it was still hot, but comparatively, you might as well have AC, scantily clad hostesses bringing you ice-cold beverages, mist sprayers, and the light pattering of cherub wings creating a cool breeze as you soak in football nirvana. contrast that with the pits of hell on the other side...yeah, not good.

just seeing this pic reminds me of how important it is to pony-up once i get the means to do so.

Why does our band continue to play the same ole boring **** all the time? Year after year, our band fails to change anything up. I understand traditions (Go State... Go State) and spelling out S-T-A-T-E and all that, but the halftime performance and music selection has been a huge fail ever since I can remember going to MSU games (80's). I don't know who our band director is or if they have had the same one for too long, but some **** needs to change. Honestly, I'd rather sit in line for BBQ nachos than watch another boring performance of the Famous Maroon Band.

And it's not just the fact that "I don't like it" or "it's not my taste". I've seen numerous away games throughout my life and in this period I've had the opportunity to see many different types of marching bands. Ours is one of the worst and the creativity level is at a standstill. We can do better.

We've changed the direction of most every aspect of our football program, why not the band as well?

Hell, I would have left also. But I was in my house drinking Bud's with the AC on 69* telling my girlfriend to bring us some more chips. I don't care what you think of me but I am not driving 7 hour round trip to see us play Hapless State University.

This is a "look at the LSU/Auburn game" bump. But hey, this only happens at Mississippi State.
