What I'm about to suggest is obvious and yet no one does it, so there must be something inherently wrong with it.
Athletic departments try to get bigger and bigger with more and more sports and yet all the sports except for football and men's basketball lose money. So how about doing this instead. Only have football and men's basketball. And then, due to Title IX, have women's basketball and however many other women's sports it takes to get the 85 scholarships to match football. And that's it. The entire athletic department would have about 10 sports. No more spending money on sports nobody cares about. And plus we can re-claim some land on campus for other purposes.
Okay, that's it, bash away and let me have it.
