Which one off season saw you as the most optimistic?

Bulldog Nation as a whole, which year?

Agreed. 2001 was actually the most optomistic I've ever been. Perhaps the crushing reality of a losing season that year is what turned me into the pessimist I am today.

a top 15 program and would win possibly 10 games.

In 2008, I'm hoping we can win 7 and if luck would have it 8 so that we can keep this recruiting class and keep building.

So, easily 2001.

For all the hell Steve Robinson catches for his Rose Bowl prediction, pretty much everybody expected us to have another kick *** team in 2001. We were coming off the best 4-year period (and really the best decade) since WW II for us and there didn't seem to be any reason not to expect another 7-10 win season. Looking back, it's pretty easy to see that our defensive collapse had really started in 2000 and had just been masked by the fact we had a great offense that year.

2001 easily.

I was wondering which bowl we were going to go to before the season even started.

It didn't matter to me that Dontae Walker looked like Fat Albert, that we had brought in a bunch of JUCO's that were inexperienced, I mean, they all wouldn't be busts right?, Hargro was going to be Randy Moss and Ray Ray couldn't be caught in a phone booth.

Then PLOP!

I was willing to forgive JWS for that one season, but after 02, it was clear to me that he was done.

I'm still wondering which bowl we'll go to this year too. The difference, this time in 2001 I was wondering if we'd go to the Cotton, Peach, or Outback Bowl. This year, I'm wondering if we'll go to the Papa Johns or Independence Bowl.

I think we had like 5 defensive players who were preseason all-sec, including that juco db (forgot his name) who'd never played a snap in d-1.

Banks and Wright were supposed to step in and be big time players right away...I'll never forget Spurrier and Grossman laughing on the sidelines during the 52-0 torching of those guys. Here's a good question on the JUCO All-Americans we brought in: Which group was the bigger bust? The JUCO DB's (Banks and Wright) or the JUCO DL (Khalil Nash, Mike Oyefesobi, and Danny Snyder (did he ever make it on campus?)? As bad as Banks and Wright were, I can't remember the D-line guys ever doing anything worth a ****.

I would venture to say the D-Line. I was on the sideline during the Tulane collapse and Oyefesobi was high fiving people in the stands in the 3rd quarter and even got a thing of peanuts and a drink and was eating it on the sideline laughing. I can remember standing next to J-Rock (his freshman year) and he just had his head down and was looking mad as hell. I think it was J.P. Losman who lead that comeback for Tulane but I could be wrong. That was the ugliest thing the Superdome saw until Katrina. To soon?

After I watched that fat *** eat that **** on the sideline I lost respect for that whole group for not taking him by the face and asking him what the hell are you doing.

Definately 2001 for that upcoming football season. But looking at overall, long-term athletics:

-Looks like Croom finally figured out how to recruit, and I think we're much less likely to get slapped with probation (than with Jackie). I know, perfect storm this year, blah blah, but I've always thought that if we could show some success on the field, that players would start flocking to Croom.
-I think (hope) that we have an AD who will tell Croom to send Woody packing, short of a 180 degree turnaround this year
-Cohen.
-Stans has built a basketball program such that we pretty consistently compete for a western division title (something like 4 out of the last 6). How he gets these players here I don't know, that part does scare me.
-Byrne should bring the AD into the 21st (or hell, 20th for a start) century.
-I fully expect BC membership and giving to increase with LT gone. I know for a fact it's up by 1 and $100.
-Starkville and MSU are growing, which both causes and is caused by athletic success.
-It's pretty hard not to be excited about our baseball futures right now.

Something will go wrong, I know, but we're already competitive in the SEC in basketball, baseball seems on the right track, and football... we'll see. Another bowl win this year and to actually sign 95% of the 2009 class, and we will have some pretty good "mo" going. The SEC might start taking applications for another SECW doormat.</p>

9/11, team fight during the tornado, loss to Troy. I was absolutely distraught, only to be soliced by a victory over UM.

the season on Gene's Page. Many posters told me to not be so negative and most thought 8 wins was very pessimistic.

In 2000 we had finally had an offense that was good. I think they were 3rd in the SEC and brought back most of the offense. Wayne's senior year with Dicenzo and Dontae. I prayed all the rumors of Dontae getting up to 280 was false. I was really thinking that even though we got so many jucos on defense, JLD could do something with them. I was thinking we might have the best Offense in the SEC and then I watched one of the worst jobs of blocking and catching the damn ball.

.......4 straight winning seasons, including 2 bowl wins and trips to both the SEC title game and Cotton Bowl, has us all very giddy over the football situation at MSU.

I'm happy about the 2007 season, but I still have a lot of doubts because of the 6 years prior to that and the fact that I'm not totally convinced in the current coaching staff.

At least that guy was yelling what everyone was thinking. In terms of inappropriateness, I'd have to go with the Memphis fan that yelled "Go Tigers" during the moment of silence for Keefer McGee.

I concur, OB what ever the hell his name was sucked it long and hard. The best attempt I ever saw him make at a tackle was when he was working as a doorman at Lucky's, and he tried to break up a fight on Main St. Not only did he dive over a car to try and bring down some of the people fighting, but of course in true style of his football ability, managed to whiff the entire crowd of brawlers, at which point he plumetted to the ground and managed to the get jumped by everyone that had previously been fighting amongst themselves.
