It's been a couple of weeks now since the gang raping began, so I'm interested to hear how it's been. Are places doing better business on Sundays? What bars are doing specials for the NFL? Just curious. Thanks.

at Old Venice sunday.

I asked the hostess, "Do you serve alcohol today?" "I think they might have just changed that law. I'm not sure if we do that or not yet."

I asked the waitress "Do you serve alcohol today?" "I'm not sure, but I can check on that for you."

Even McDonalds employees know how to say "Can I get you a PBR with your pasta?"

but have any of the restaurants in Starkville set aside "family friendly" sections on Sundays, where there's no alcohol or gang rapes permitted? At least one restaurant in Tupelo has decided to do that.

the owner actually spoke in favor of selling beer at the council meeting just before they voted. The pizza is one of the best I've ever had.

but I don't drink in front of my kids. Number 1 because I don't wish to be impaired while caring for them.

That being said what on earth is wrong with a restaurant trying to cater to people who don't like to drink and those that do? Drinking is fine I have nothing against it I do imbibe myself, but people's lips can get looser with alcohol. They may wish to curse more than usual. Another reason to want to keep your kids away from people drinking.

Not trying to outlaw sunday sales but if a restaurant wants to have separate sections for drinking and non drinking what difference would it make to you if you were enjoying yourself in the drinking section and a family of four was enjoying themself in the non drinking section??

You people are the ones who perfer chain restaurants, and to clear up any confusion I determine if a certain bar/eatery is a chain restaurant based on a very strict, yet varying and subjective set of rules. But if BWW is your cup of tea then great, if you're happy there then I won't have to see you at my local bar.</p>

No, thats fine. It's why some restaurants have bar sections and regular sections (OVPC in Starkville comes to mind). But the above post made it sound like ONLY on Sundays will this "family section" be in effect.

What's the difference on me drinking in front of your kid on Sunday vs. Thursday? Not a thing. This reeks of parents sticking their heads in the sand. I hope you don't take your kids shopping, y'all may see someone smoking or dancing!!!

I don't see anything wrong with it, I just don't really see it happening unless you have two rooms. It's kind of like smoking and nonsmoking sections, its just different sides of the room in a lot of places.

thanks to the owner/ukulele player.

What is so wrong with what he is doing? The place is split in two anyway with the bar on the left and more seating to the right. If you want a drink on sunday... just take a left when you go in the door. You have plenty of seating in the bar area and even a nice patio to eat outside and drink if you want to.

It's not like he throws a huge curtain up on sunday and herds everyone up in one particular area that wants a drink... and then has a church organist play loudly to drown out the sounds of the gang rapes.

First you completely miss the sarcasm on the BWW thing. Then you failed to catch a line from one of the greatest satires of all time.

Just.... damn.

Well, it fell along the line of natural progression: 1. Shoes (March '09); 2. Paved Roads (June '09) 3. Sunday Alcohol Sales (Sept. '09)

My kids are almost 3 years old and 8 months old. I really don't get a chance to drink in front of my kids, with all the diaper changing and constant checking to see if the three year old needs to go potty and what not (she is training now). Didn't mean to imply that you are a bad parent if you do drink in front of your kids. I will drink in front of them when it is easier, obviously not to excess. If you drink to excess in front of them you are a bad parent.

However, the intention of my original post was to wonder why its bad for a restaurant to have separate drinking and non drinking sections? I don't see anything wrong with it. You certainly wouldn't want to take your kids to someplace like the Grill at happy hour. However, if they had had an area that was alcohol free and you just wanted to get some cheese sticks with your child, you would probably go the alcohol free area. Number one its good to keep your kids away from people who you don't know how much they have drank, number two probably more important, the people drinking probably really don't want to be around your kids and having to bite their tongue. Its considerate on both levels.

I just do have some friends, with kids in the range of yours and older, that do not drink in front of them. Some even drink when they are around but "don't let them see". I have an entire litter -college age to K- and I have never had a problem with it. Of course my parents always drank around us (OK, Dad did) and hosted parties with plenty of drinking going on. As a kid I don't ever remember anything wild or strange (doesn't mean it didn't happen, we just were in bed I guess, if it did). I have asked several for their reasoning and really have never got an answer. When they are as young as yours, I find that I make and remake drinks more often than I get to consume them.

As for the the restaurant deal, I think it is great. I enjoy a family atmosphere as well as others. My patronage is mine to give, just like anyone else.
