1. We did offensively as I expected. We are better on offense than in 2010. Ralph can makes throws, we are still physical upfront, and our WR's are better.

2. I like the hurry-up- we wont use it all the time- only when its to our advantage. I think we can use it vs Auburn fo sho- LSU? Not so much. We need to shorten that game as much as possible.

3. Tubby Lewis is going to be a player. He is inexperienced and is going to make so more mistakes, but that little 17'er is going to make some plays too. I'm so pleased with our WR's finally. Get well Uncle Ricco asap

4. Lay off Carmon- he was nervous. He actually did some good things and just needs the experience. He comes off the ball hard when he is blocking down- I see why they think he will be a better run-blocker than Sherrod. We will get better there each week.

5. For a Spread team, we really run with power- I love the way we motion in and get people involved with the run game. But we were very vanilla. Look for some new twists vs Auburn. And more from Perkins. I hope my boys grow up like Ballard- just got ol quiet, hard working guy that brings it on gameday.

6. The DL is going to get better. It was actually good that Cox didnt play and the other guys so many reps. They needed it. PJ still has baby fat, but he has some skills. Eulls just needs more live reps. When Cox is in there with Boyd, Auburn is going to piss themselves

7. Not sure I like us in the 4-2-5. I know why they are doing it- because we are much better at SS than we are at LB, but I just like the 4-3 more in college football- especially with our 2 DT's- having a Mike LB should be a strength for us. Wasnt impressed with Maye and I like Lawrence much more at OLB than I do playing inside like he has to in a 4-2. We'll show alot more this Saturday- I'll be watching this very closely.

8. Wells is going to be a player, and having Bonner and Whitley in there at the same time looked good as well. They are going to hammer some WR's this year.

9. We have scored 30+ points in our last 4 games and 50+ twice. That has to be a Miss State record.

10. As I have said since March- we are going to beat Auburn by 14 or more.

Other thoughts from the weekend:

LSU is better than Bama right now. We are better than Oregon, but we are going to have our hands full vs LSU. We do more power running than Oregon, which should negate some of LSU's speed at DE, but I'm worried about how much push we will get inside. That will be where the game is won and lost.

Mississippi struggled as I expected- the QB killa is hard at work. And if they have lost 2 TB's as is rumored, they are in 17'ing trouble. Defense surprised, but I'll take that with a grain of salt vs all those white skill people BYU had. The poster that said Jimmy Sexton is his hero was dead on- they are looking at 0-8 in the SEC.

LSU, Bama. UPig, and State are simply the best 4 teams in the SEC. Then bring in SC and Fla. to round out the top 6.

Good summarization. Only thing I see different is when S.C. has the Spaniard in at QB they are top 4 in the conference. Now that he pretty much showed Spurrier he's a dumbass for letting Shaw start, I imagine they team will rally around him and put the squeeze on UGA big time.....

But anyway back to us....I feel our 11 against their(lsu/bama)11 on both sides are the ball are very much the same in skill set and talent, they only difference between us and those guys are depth....they can dig deep and rotate where as I don't think we can go down as far as them, which could be the difference. We'll know exactly where we are after that Thurs.

...and great point about the 4-2-5. I'm a bit surprised I didn't see people mention using this defense more often as a possibility this season.

No way they are a Top 4 SEC team if they give up 37 to ECU. I don't care who is on the bench, you don't spot a CUSA team 17 points and claim to be good. Also, the Spainard has been arguably the most inconsistent starter for an SOS team that I can remember and has had off the field issues as well. I thought it was a wise move to let Garcia set for a while.

its easy for people to point out their inconsistency and the fact that they let ECU put up points. But I really believe the Spaniard will get his off field crap turned around(truth is the guy can perform brilliantly at times)and with the combination of Lattimore in year 2 it could be a big year for them, BUT no doubt the defense will have to get it together. Ellis Johnson got some work to do.

Carmon certainly had jitters, but he is physical... very physical. Being a D-Tackle will certainly help him be more physical. <div>
</div><div>On your comment about being vanilla, that was certainly intentional (that fake punt will slow everyone's rush down. If Perkins (??) wasn't bottled up, he had 50 yards in front of him). Dan Mullen and pals have to be DROOLING at the amount of tape they got on Auburn yesterday (and LSU, too). They unzipped their fly on a lot of their strategies... particularly 2 minute, fakes, and playing tight down the stretch. Simply put, Utah State beat themselves yesterday. Auburn didn't win the game on the field. We are bigger, faster, and more physical than Utah State and that will only play to our advantage. </div><div>
</div><div>We played about as vanilla on defense as you could. I watched the game again and we didn't do crap on defense... except play out of base 4-3 the whole game. I'm excited about watching us open it up against AU and LSU. </div>

There is no way our starters have even close to the same skill set and talent at LB and DE as LSU and Bama. Bama probably has the best LB corp in the country and LSU's looked very strong last night.

I agree. Our LBs and WRs are not in the same league as what Bama has. And our DL isn't in the same league with LSU. Cox & Boyd are LSU caliber. But LSU has 4 or more DL that are LSU caliber. <div>

Why don't you troll for some grammar mistakes or something? Make a point or counterpoint instead of being 12. Dickhead.

But our LBs, if they don't get a lot better this week, would struggle to make it high enough in Bama's depth charts to even think about seeing any playing time.

are out strong points. We all know how deep we are WR, all those guys have had exceptional playing time and are all back. There's no reason to think bama or lsu corp is any better than ours. Their big targets are either gone or ineligable, and the rest are all relatively new(and athletic no doubt, just not proven yet). ANd our DL is very consistent and intact as well with boyd, cox, ferguson. All have also seen playing time and are back. Like I said first....our starters(the number 1 guys) are on par with lsu and bama for the most part(with yes the exception LBs). Where they run away from the pack is the number 2,3,4 guys are just that damn good too. By no means am I intending this to mean we are as great as those teams. I'm just saying at the top I think we are relatively close, its support we lack.

we know you understand more football than the rest of the Down Syndrome adults from the group home in West Point, but your computer time is much better spent printing out coupons and looking for different ways to design your next potholder.

Everybody else understood that I was saying we most probably wouldnt use the hurry-up in all 13 games this season.

After watching it again what would you say about the LBs? Will they be alright? Did the DTs not do a good job of keeping the O-line off them? Who would you say were the best LBs on the night?

I'm not sure they are better than their 2009 defense. We should have beat them in 09. Just saying ....

I hope our defense was played as vanilla as possible and that as we build more schemes tailored to compete against specific opponents, we can put our LBs in a better position to succeed.

From what I saw on Thursday, Cameron Lawrence looked one-dimensional: white.

I think Brantley fits in very well in that offense. I would not be surprised if they win the east, especially if Carolina is going to look like **** on defense.

I'm still not anywhere near sold on Carmon. Sure he played OK after the two terrible false starts, but it was Memphis. Let's see how he does in the SEC. And I think the Black Bears will probably win an SEC game, most likely at Kentucky. But you're right, they are screwed losing Bolden and Davis in the 1st game. We both thought their OL was way overrated, but their offense was even worse than I thought it would be, even when Bolden and Davis were still in the game. They're looking at some very Crxxm-like offense numbers this year.

LSU is the team to beat in the SEC.... You are crazy if you think we have the same talent as Bama and LSU across he board, and especially both lines... We do have some players at the skill positions that are equal to their talent.

I agree Pat. Carmon completely misses his assigned block by falling down prematurely then whiffs at LB's legs, in turn, LB stops Relf dead in tracks short of endzone. See link below. He has a ways to go.<div>

Our Defense was very very vanilla, I don't remember much blitz packages that I saw vs. Memphis. We are still gonna be an attacking defense like last year.

I went back yesterday and watched the game. My basic focus on offense was Carmon. There were a lot of plays where he never touched anyone, even on plays to his side of the field. He looked lost.

Since we're piling on Cameron I'll add to it. I didn't pay much attention to him, but there was one play where the tackle was being made and the camera was doing a close up. As this was going on Cameron comes flying backwards through the screen with a Memphis defender on him driving him into the ground.
