Both of those guys have shown me a whole lot lately. Plus, if Joe Morrow lives up to his potential we could have three legitimate "go up and get it" kind of receivers on the field and the same time. Malcolm Johnson as a Freshman is already creating all kinds of mismatches that we can exploit. <div>
</div><div>Then, we have Sanders/Heavens/Bumphis that can be used in the slot very effectively. So, having Russell get more reps with these guys encourages me for the future</div>

Agree with most of the evalution of the game. What about the 15 to 20 yard area between the linebackers and safeties that teams are loving. I think that at least 5 to 6 passes and long runs from that area that were thrid down plays.

I really like the job Richt has done at UGA.
But he also doesn't have to play Bama, LSU, or Arkansas. That is a huge plus and I will give them credit for playing Boise State butGeorgia isno great team.If we finishwith 2 wins in the league againstKentucky and the Bears, does that take away from the fact that we underperformed and my point was that Coach will tell us every season how bad the SEC west is in basketball but the east in football is certainly no great division this year and Bama or LSU willbeat the living hell out of any team over there. Just kind of odd how nice coach is except for basketball and his hatred for Stans.

That's what I was thinking... sure, competing to win the SECW in football and basketball are 2 different things, but we had one of our best teams in the last 25 years last year and finished 5th. It'll be hard to ever finish 3rd again.<div>
</div><div>But it's easy and just like a lower tier SEC fanbase to hide behind the "but we play in the SEC" argument. Truth is, Bama and LSU are good, but who's any good behind them this year? The bowls will probably confirm this, but USC, Auburn, and UGA are very mediocre. </div><div>7 or maybe even 8 of the Big 12's 10 teams would likely be favored over us

Any bowl game is good for MSU! Not like we're a perennial bowl team. I was disappointed we couldn't make a play on defense on SCs final drive. They didn't have one third down until the pass on the goal line!

Good analysis as always but one big disagreement.
Agree that close losses suck, agree that Coach Wilson is a good coach and should put away all doubters (I don't think he is Ellis Johnson but few are). You are right, Relf wasn't the problem, it was the OL, and having Carmon back was huge. We are not a good passing team - that is agreed - and Russell is clearly the better passer (though he will throw 4 interceptions in one game sometime - he is too careless with the ball right now). Problem is, the spread option offense is not made for a QB like Russell. So unless we scrap the entire offense and put in something new (highly unlikely since it is all Mullen has coached his entire career), I don't think Russell is the best choice for us.First, ifhe keeps taking licks like he did on Saturday, he will not last the season. Second, he is not the same running threat that Relf is - we need a good runner with the spead option offense. Third, the spread option offense that Mullen/Koening love and know is not a good passing offense - it is a run first offense. I can't see us being successful with Russell at QB in this offense, even though he is the most talented passer at MSU in a long time.
Here is wherewe disagree: You wrote:
9. We should finish 6-6 and go bowling. We are not a program yet that can call going to a bowl a bad or disappointing season. You can be disappointed we didnt pull out a few more wins- but Miss State going to a bowl is a successful season. Argue if you want- I've got history and facts on my side. The few idiots- and you are an Ernest T. Bass village idiot if you are talking about getting rid of Mullen.

Now I don't think that we should get rid of Mullen - I think all coaches deserve lots of time at schools like Miss. State that have a poor football history in the SEC - but Mullen has not proved anything except that he can win with good players. If we go 6-6 and go to a bowl, it isa hugely disappointing season and simply a result of Greg Byrne scheduling to protect his coach - this team would not have made a bowl once during the Croom years because each year we had at least one non-conference game against WVU or GT. We would not have beat either of those teams this year, and if we played La. Tech at La. Tech like Croom did, it would have been a loss. Beating the 3 worst D-I teams in the country and a I-AA team that isn't even competitive in I-AA (they lost to South Alabama this weekend and were down by 20 to them), and the worst Kentucky and Ole Miss teams in a least a decade is not impressive. In fact, losing to every decent team on the schedule is highly disapointing to me. If we scheduled out of conference like other teams in the SEC (with at least one good out of confernece game), then we would be very unlikely to be bowling this year.

As to Mullen we trust - the problem with this team is talent, and freshman and sophomore problem. This is because Mullen has been a terrible recruiter so far. Maybe he will get better, but so far he is heavily relying on Croom's players (the vast majority are Croom recruits that are starting).I'll trust in him when he begins to recruit as well as Croom did.
