I thought the halftime show was an impressive spectacle from a production standpoint. The lights, choreography, etc. was incredible. The music though, that was lacking (in my opinion).

You guys are old or either just ancient acting. Usher is not even a modern R&B Act. Most of those songs were like 15-20 years old. They picked Usher because he has had a very successful residency in Las Vegas for the past two years. If you want to Guitars, Usher has a "Tiny Desk Concert" on NPR. An Artist like Usher is not going to do a concert in Vegas where he just stands there backed by a band of Guitars and a Drummer. I don't appreciate Rock Music, but I don't live under a Rock either. I am aware of certain artists. May not know their songs, but I am aware enough to know what I may be about to see. This is almost as bad as saying I don't know who Michael Jackson is. Artists like Usher and Chris Brown are just updated versions of MJ.

That's not the ONLY reason he was selected. It always felt like the HT show was pretty diverse. Different styles, different backgrounds, different ethnicities. In the interest of "inclusion", that diversity has been destroyed. In the 5 years since Jay Z took over, we've had 4 R&B/rap performances and a latin pop show. There are a lot of folks that would like to see country/rock included. ZERO chance that's going to happen any time soon.

I know who Usher is but have never listened to his music. I'd argue the point that he's an updated version of Michael Jackson. Nothing I heard last night showed much musical range or ability. Michael Jackson had an unbelievable range. That man could flat sing. Perhaps Usher has other selections that would show something similar, but last night didn't show it.

I would agree with regard to the early Michael Jackson. However, MJ was sounding pretty rough by the 90's. ... and the musical ability or range is not even the focus with these type of artists. It's the show. If you don't get into the dancing and the light show, they are just not for you.

That's the penalty for running Colin Kaepernick out of the league. NFL trying to play the middle and call themselves giving their Black audience a bone by having Jay-Z over the music. So, it's not really about diversity. It's a weak attempt to keep the peace.

It was definitely an impressive show, just not my taste. I prefer artists where the music is the point, not the show.

Almost...they don't give a flying F about Kaep. If they did, he'd be on a roster. He's just the vehicle groups like BLM used to bully large corporations into social justice initiatives. The timing was just right.

Dude, who is this "they" you speak of? The owners of the NFL teams?? Why do large corporations need to be "bullied" into social justice initiatives? Doesn't the USofA guarantee everyone the same rights....you know, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

The collective ownership of the NFL. You know, the ones that won't give Kaep a job. The halftime show was already diverse. Most years there were multiple genres, multiple ethnicities, etc...The partnership with Roc Nation killed that, all for the sake of social justice. Companies don't need to be bullied into it. It's a grift, a money making scheme, a fundraising op for the democrat party. Plain and simple.

Truth be told, isn't the Super Bowl the most overrated media, sports, and pop culture event in the world? I'm not saying it's terrible, but how could it possibly live up to the hype? By extension, the halftime show is equally overrated. It's twenty minutes of a hastily put together set with terrible acoustics. It is to musical performances what a county fair midway is to theme parks. Who really cares who they roll out there - It's not as if any of us are dancing to the music in our living rooms. It's just something to have on in the background while we pop another bag of popcorn in the microwave.

If we're being honest, is a Super Bowl that doesn't include a team we pull for really great entertainment? Is it really better than a good movie, or 4 hours doing almost anything else we enjoy? I don't think so. But we watch because it's tradition and it's what everybody else does. It's kind of like cooking a turkey at Thanksgiving. Nobody loves turkey more than a good steak, but we do it because that's what you are supposed to do at Thanksgiving.

Didn't Kaepernick sabotage himself several times? When teams were interested?

Kind of. He was offered workouts, and didn't show up for them. It came out later that the teams would only let him workout if he signed a release of all potential discrimination claims. If he thought he was still good enough to play I think he would have gone through with it anyway. But clearly he wasn't good enough.
