What’s the worst that can happen at this point? You hire a guy like Mark Pope when in those scenarios.

I only listen to Jones when he's on the national media up by me. Don't have an opinion on him like everyone else seems to have here.
But he proved this week to have absolutely NO inside information, what-so-ever. He was wrong and misguided every step of the way. Maybe THE most incorrect person of all the names we shared. He's fun to listen to, but I won't trust what he says about UK when it comes to insider info anymore. And I wouldn't trust this either until proven otherwise.
Guess we'll see as the dust settles. I just find it hard to believe Mitch going rogue and tying his job to an unproven guy he'd have to know wasn't going to go over very well. ...unless he actually did have backing. To me, that makes much more sense than what's flying around the emotional rumor tornado.
Do you really think mitch would not put out a feeler for these guys you mention? Of course he did and got the same feedback but he saves a little face by not publicly going after them. He would not go from drew and hurley straight to pope without asking about these other guys.
The sad fact remains, the fans got what they wanted. Cal is gone. Now the ones who still knew what we had in Cal have to sleep in the bed the terrible fans made

I don't know what to think right now. I feel really bad for Pope because he's a great dude and one of our own. But, he had no business getting this position. This is just a brutal pill to swallow.

Mitch has never had a finger on the pulse of this fanbase. Pope would have been on if we got past tier 2 but we weren’t even out of tier 1. He just panicked and made a quick hire to be done with it bc he likes his character.

Tristan Pharis also posted it. You can’t expect to hire fans 56th choice as your #3 option and everyone rally behind it. This is a disaster because we have by far the worst AD in the land. No wonder Cal and him didn’t have a relationship the guy couldn’t make a good decision if there was only one option. Laughing stock of the sports world because of one man.

You're just being emotional and irrational. I've advocated for Barnhart to be fired for years but to say that UK Athletics as a whole isn't better is just nonsense. Since he took over, literally every sport has been better, facilities are better, revenue is better. That's the job of an AD. Not just make sure basketball is taken care of.

Pope has my full support. The 90s were huge to me as a UK fan. But if Pope didn’t have UK ties, he’s never sniffing this job let’s not kid ourselves.

Nope. Not being a contrarian. I wouldn't waste my time just to do that. You said UK athletics was a cluster yet you only pointed to him needing to hire coaches for basketball as your rationale for it being a cluster. Yet, there are many sports highly ranked and doing well. He's done a poor job at managing basketball but athletics as a whole has never been better. Whats your proof its a cluster? I don't think you know what that means. You're just butthurt that Cal is gone. Fire Barney, I don't give a ****. Like I said, I wanted him gone years ago because he's managed basketball so poorly. If the NIL guarantees made to Danny Hurley are there for Mark Pope it maybe can work. It’s still a risk we didn’t need to take.
