Are you guys on that HBO promo? Mine was $170 a month before the promo expired on me this month?
Dawgstudent - how is the phone service? I work from home a fair amount and spend at least 3 hours on the phone a day so it would have to be decent for me to consider. I'm calling them tomorrow to see what all they've got going.

...is 4 MB downloads. The standard is 6 MB, which is smoking fast, but is more like $45 per month.
I have directv but use comcast internet at the economy level. It's a pretty good deal.

is all of the crap my wife has saved on our Comcast DVR. She doesn't want to lose all that but if we ditch Comcast, we have to turn the box in. It's ridiculous, I know, but she does pay our cable bill...
Anyway, the question is, can you transfer DVR recordings to a PC or hard drive so you don't lose all of it? I'm fairly certain that there's a way, but I get lost every time I get on the message boards that talk about this stuff. Anyone have any idea?

I think I found your balls on the street somewhere. Your wife apparently threw it out with last month's cable bill.

Or better yet, just delete her shows, play dumb, and blame it on Comcast, adding to your list of reasons to switch.
....is that it's atrocious. Not only do we obviously lack the overall number of HD channels, but the ones that are offered are always questionable as to their reliability. One day you tune in and everything's fine, the next day half your HD channels are either blacked out, fragmenting badly or freezing up, or you get a picture with no sound. This isn't just a problem once in a while. It happens 2 or more times a week on a regular basis. It's utterly frustrating, especially for as much money as Comcast rapes you for every month.
I will be switching to Directv soon. I was supposed to this month, but my plans changed because of current finances. I also may hold off just long enough to see if they finally start offering our HD locals. I don't want to install an antenna.
In any event, there's no way Directv is worse than the Jackson- Comcast market.

and I pay 190 a month, and that is about to go up to 205 a month when my 2nd box 'special' ends in a month or two. God, I hate Comcast!
First I've heard of that. I've known guys to lie about their conquests or "endowment" but who would lie about what they pay for cable and/or cell phone? I understand that the ability to negotiate a better deal than the next guy is cool and all, but who really cares?
I like getting my local HD channels from an antenna. If the weather is bad you don't lose locals due to rain fade. I still use comcast for internet. I still get comcast channels 2-99 in SD and the 4 local networks in HD for free. I will switch over to comcast if there is a game on CSS or I want to watch the Memphis locals (I'm in Tupelo).
didn't realize I was such a cheapskate. I ***** about paying $100 a month for standard comcast cable (no HD or movie channels other than starz) and comcast internet. Maybe I'll upgrade one day, but I just hate spending that kind of money on TV & internet.
at my house but at night, it has gone out maybe two times in 3 years. They also have a 3 hour battery backup just in case you lose power. I am pleased with the phone and internet. The only thing I hate about the TV is the new software for the guide and DVR. It's absolutely horrible.
except mine was FOX. You might not care about PBS but what you can do is get a smaller "set top" UHF antenna and put it up in the attic pointed to PBS. Then get a splitter and spin that thing around and use it as a "joiner" to combine the two signals. They need to be at least 90 degrees apart or you will get some crazy ghosting but if you are doing one North and one South you should be good. I realize it's PBS so it's easier to just say, "screw it!" but the joined signals works well.birdZdawg said:
the sports package and another HD-DVR I'd be paying the same thing I'm paying now, give or take a few dollars. Plus I don't want a home phone anyway. Comcast sucks. If my stupid apartment didn't face the wrong direction, I'd have given up cable a long time ago.
