Just saw a pic of the Naz seniors on NSD, and Dmitri Joe is wearing a hat for local SXU! He is a legit FBS player, and held an offer from Nevada at one point. Steal steal steal...

I will admit I don't know any of the details concerning this but if all things were equal this is a shock.

I am not trying to show any disrespect toward XSU but the schedule and level the Wolfpack plays at in comparison is superior, including games against Arizona and Boise State to just name two. They played BYU and Colorado State as well and of course they played at Hawaii. Talk about a nice road trip! A lot of familiar teams on that schedule. They have a very nice new stadium and the campus is also very nice. Reno is also a great place with a lot to do and the weather is great. The Wolfpack also played in a bowl game although it wasn't a major bowl. I am sure we all know it's where Colin Kaepernick played.

I am not talking anything about academics or anything he may have thought about there, just football. I did say if all things were equal in the offers it is a shock. My hunch is that the offers weren't equal. I am thinking he gets on the field right away at XSU and may not have at UNR. Again, I don't know the details.

Maybe he just wants to stay here too although I'd take Reno and the mountains over this place for school any day. It's a long way to Reno. I have flown there many times and driven it too. 1940 miles from my house. Man he's missing out on Lake Tahoe too. But, I am sure he must be comfortable with his decision. If you are correct it's a huge pick up for XSU. Good for him.

Nevada pulled the offer awhile back after an injury. Hence "at one point"...

SXU and Nevada aren't comparable. I would say almost any kid would play FBS football over NAIA any day of the week.

No offense to SXU, they have had a lot of success the past 5-10 years at the NAIA level.

I think that was Epic's point. This kid held a FBS offer, was pulled after an injury. Now committed to SXU. A real steal for them.

The "at one point" phrase was something I did think about. But I have learned here that there are tons of posts that are misread or taken the wrong way. It happens almost every day. For all I knew, he held the offer at one point until he told them he wasn't going there. If you had said they pulled it back because of an injury or that they just pulled it back there would have been no need for me to post. I do the same thing. I make posts thinking everyone understands what I am saying. That's not always true however.

But whatever, no harm. I wish the kid luck.

Dr. Here is the real picture. Listen my son played for
SXU he played in 3 Semi-Final games out of 4 years of
playing. Yes he played as a true freshman. Bottom line
is SXU is not compare able to the Wolfpack but they are
one of the top teams in the country NAIA. The question is
was this kid ever going to reach the NFL? Let's be honest not
many make it. My son got a Business degree and has been
Working at a good job and just bought his first home. He's 26.
I would say the kid needs to be happy and the education comes first
SXU did my son right. Who knows maybe he will get coach Fem another
Championship.

Go Cougars!!

Corey:

It's obvious you didn't read my posts very carefully. I specifically said we were talking football, not education. But a degree at UNR isn't an insult either.

I am glad your son had a good experience at SXU.

No, the question isn't whether the kid is going to see the NFL. I am not sure where you came up with that. The NFL has nothing to do with this other than the fact I mentioned Kaepernick. But I mentioned him to bring out the quality of the program at UNR.

I also said if both offers were equal I couldn't figure out why the kid wouldn't go to UNR. Of course the offers probably weren't equal and according to another poster, the offer from UNR was pulled anyway so that is a moot point. I seriously doubt if all things were equal that SXU was going to be this kid's first choice, from a football standpoint, over UNR.

If a kid has a chance to play at an NAIA school good for him. However, if the kid has the talent to play at a school such as UNR and gets a good offer he is crazy not to challenge himself at that level.

Again, I have nothing against SXU, but I would rather see my son playing the competition UNR plays and in a bowl game at the end of the season than three semi-final NAIA games. No offense, just reality.

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I actually think
We are on the same page. My point is there is nothing
wrong with him playing for SXU. He will excel on the field,
play for a high level NAIA program while getting his degree.
Coach Fem is an excellent coach and cares about his players.
He will have a good experience. Yes if he could of played at the
D-1 level he might of taken that road but we don't know all his reasons
Of selecting SXU? Maybe he just wanted to go to a small school close
to home?

Again, I am not sure you read this entire thread. According to another poster UNR pulled its offer after the kid sustained an injury. I can't verify that, but I doubt that poster would be incorrect. I actually suggested he may have wanted to go close to home before I knew what actually happened.

My speculation is, he had the offer, either accepted it or was going to, then got hurt. I could be wrong. As I say, I am speculating. I also have the hunch SXU wasn't going to be his first choice. Not with that kind of talent. But, again, I could be wrong.

As for the degree, you can get one anywhere if you're willing to do the work and stay focused. As I said, I am happy your son had a good experience at SXU and seems to be doing well. But whenever I see something like that, I always credit the kid first before the school he or she went to.

I could elaborate on that but, that conversation may be for another time.

SXU has a knack for finding the high caliber players who are near D-1 talent

Coach Fem and staff seem to find/lure big time talent via transfers too.

I thought a couple guys from the 2011 NAIA Championship team " Prosser and Appino " couldve definately been playing at a higher level .
Transfers on the team " Marciano and Sandling " were at bigger schools before settling in at SXU. Also QB Jimmy Coy.

What surprises me is after the success Fem has enjoyed, that he hasnt tried to move up to a bigger program.
A great coach with a really good staff. St Xavier must pay him well to keep him all this time
