You're misunderstanding my point, I'm not in a frenzy. I'm simply stating that it's ridiculous for the President to purposely tip toe around the root cause of the issue, because he might make them even more angry at us. Nevermind 49 people just were killed by a guy that called 911 and pledged loyalty to ISIS. Instead we get gun control jammed down our throats for political purposes. If so many people want it, then lets send it to the people to vote for a constitutional ammendment, you and I both know why that won't happen.

Speaking of bombing them, even on that Obama drug his feet, damn near let Iraq fall and countless thousands killed and raped. Took Russia getting involved to force his hand.

Well, you claim to see bombing as tip toeing. History will judge. Recent events have raised Obama's stature with the public. Hopefully that will continue since the world needs rational adults who don't respond to schoolyard insults.

So, short of gong "is" and "is not" a couple of more times, that's that from me.

How is "ISIL" a slap at Israel?
I just read 5 different stories on ISIS vs ISIL and not a single one mentions Israel in any form or fashion.
ISIS = Islamic State Iraq Syria
ISIL = Islamic State Iraq and the Levant
Levant is a translation of "al-Sham" -- the word the group uses to refer to itself.

Al-Sham is a reference to a region that stretches from Turkey through Syria to Egypt and includes the Palestinian territories, Jordan and Lebanon, according to Rashid Khalidi, a Columbia University professor and expert on Syrian history.
Part of the confusion stems from the fact that al-Sham has many meanings in Arabic.
Khalidi said: "How you translate 'al-Sham' determines whether you have an 'L' or an 'S' in English. It's the same word in Arabic. How you translate the term into English determines if you're of the 'ISIL' camp or the 'ISIS' camp. The Levant, which can extend from northern Egypt to Greece, is not as precise."
On the United States government's use of ISIL, Khalidi surmised: "Maybe because you don't want to give the dignity of the name that they give themselves."
Nawaf Obaid, a visiting fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University, said via email that ISIL is preferable in English "to make it clear to a Western audience."
Levant denotes Syria and Lebanon in Arabic, "so better to stick to ISIL and clarify that it's the same as ISIS, but a more accurate translation from the Arabic," he said.
ISIS
ISIS is an English translation of the acronym in Arabic for Al-Dawla Al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham, or the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham.
The organization has said its goal is to form an Islamic state, or caliphate, over the entire region, stretching from Turkey through Syria to Egypt and including the Palestinian territories, Jordan and Lebanon.
Some think ISIS flows better as a word in English. It also happens to be the name of one of a goddess of ancient Egypt.
CNN has been referring to the organization as ISIS, shorthand for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
Arabic speakers say al-Sham can be translated to mean the Levant, Syria, greater Syria, and even Damascus.
Islamic State
The jihadists like to refer to themselves simply as the Islamic State, a term more accurately reflecting the organization's aspirations of creating a caliphate across national borders.
They prefer to be known either as the Islamic State -- al-Dawla al-Islamiya in Arabic -- or just the State, al-Dawla. That is what they call themselves in online videos.
Nailed it.

Ok moron, it is on topic. You're whining about the people that want obama to call it radical Islam. I asked you if it names don't matter, why does Obama insist on calling it ISIL?
See Fuzz's post above. He gets it. And, dude, I've said it time and again, but the name-calling is really childish and demeaning -- to yourself mostly.

I don't give a **** what he calls it anymore. Workplace violence, hate crimes, or just ignores the problem all together.

The world is getting out of control and history is going to nuke obamas legacy when it continues to get worse. Just wait until his cabinet is off the hook and the generals do more talking in a few years. They've already said he has no strategy and is more concerned with PC than facing the problem.

Time is ticking on Obama, who is far and away the worst president of all modern times.

The reason some folks don't want to say anything bad toward Islam is because they agree with them on some level.
This PC culture that come from liberals has lead us to a POTUS that is scared of his own shadow. He doesn't care to offend Americans but in no way, shape, or form will he offend Islam.

I challenge you to find one instance where I have said that.
Obviously you don't even understand your position in this conversation. You have taken the position that since all 1.6 billion Muslims aren't radical, we should overlook or excuse the ones that are. In a nutshell, that is your argument.

If a friend tells me he is going to kill someone and asks to borrow one of my guns, use my house to plan the attack, use my car to carry it out, and use my silence to ensure his completion of the task, then I am as guilty as he is if I allow those things. I can say afterwards that I disagreed with him, but what actual good is that?

The "good" or "innocent" Muslims have done nothing to stem the tide. That says more than their empty words of remorse after the fact.

He knows when he's done presidentin' that we aren't going to kill him. Hell, no one has yet. If he makes too big a stink about Islam, that **** will catch up with him. He just wants to get out of here alive.

You really think I don't understand my own position? Or is it quite simply that you don't want to understand it? My point all along is that you cannot tar innocent people with the sins of another simply because they subscribe to the same religion. Do you really believe that? Because that flies in the face of this country's Constitution, its fundamental values, the rule of law, and human decency on every level. We made a commitment as a people a long time ago that we don't behave like savages just because other people do, that we take evidence, weigh it, and then mete out punishment.

You might also remember that I originally came to this board because some folks thought it would be fine to perpetuate the falsehood that three "Syrian refugees" in Idaho had raped at knifepoint and murdered a little girl. Then when I pointed out that these accusations were false, and proved it, they never retreated but marched forward railing against all Muslims because they were either (1) all American-hating fanatics ready to kill us all, or (2) one slight provocation away from it.

I think I will pass on the objectivity of a website that trumpets itself as follows:
"TheReligionofPeace
TROP is a non-partisan, fact-based site that examines the ideological threat that Islam poses to human dignity and freedom."

[laughing] What? I didn't show you some oped or column. I pointed you to a site that combined all of those verses. Google them yourself.

is there a reason why you continue to do this? No offense but you're not the slightest bit educated on this religion yet feel you can tell others that they're mistaken.

Do I need to highlight the relevant language for you? "The ideological threat that Islam poses to human dignity and freedom." Do you honestly think these folks are dispassionately trying to understand and explain Islam? By the way, your little smiley thing does not help your argument.

Calling an act and what's behind it isn't name calling, it's simply stating the fact Islamic radicalism is behind it.

What recent event besides an election and his departure have raised his status?

Did you notice that in the other names you chose (racists, woman haters, warmongers, etc.), you did not identify those groups by their religion? Do you think that it is possible that calling these terrorists "radical Muslims" would be playing right into their hands -- that is, that they would want to be to mobilize the entire Muslim world against West? If you can admit that there is a least a plausible reason why your Commander in Chief did this, would you defer to him or continue questioning the decision as if you had all the same information that he did?
Did you notice that I was showing you the hypocrisy of the left and your inability to see it.

first of all, this is a Syrian refugee thread, and that constitution you speak of does not extend to them, especially in a time when a terrorist threat has likely infiltrated the pool and could be detrimental to the American people. The job of the federal government is to protect its citizens FIRST, not second, not third.

Secondly, you're an Obama supporter. You do not support the rule of law, you support your selective interpretation of it. You obviously wouldn't support enforcing immigration law, you obviously don't support enforcing federal law on sanctuary cities, and I'd be willing to bet you don't support the federal 10-15 year federal (allowed) law that puts illegal gun owners behind bars when committing a crime with a weapon. And of course, everyone knows why.

So don't pretend to be a soldier for the American constitution, its principles, or it's values. You take whatever stand you like, but you are not a friend of promoting safety and security for the vast population of the American people.

Missed the point again either by design or ignorance. The first suggest you lack the moral courage to stand up for the right thing and the latter suggest you have been duped by your hero Obama.

Who is the enemy Vanilla? Al Qaeda, Taliban, ISIS, ISIL, Hoko Baram? Hmm, what ties all these groups together, if we could only pinpoint the link between these groups maybe we could stop them.
In the meantime let's not call them radical Islamists, that might piss them off.....brilliant!

Anyone ever notice how liberals become offended (pardon the consistency in words chosen) at the terms like "the apologetic left" and are super thin skinned when confronted with the reality that liberal = dirty, yet half of them seem to, themselves, try to distance their affiliation during a debate. It's common.

I had college professors do the exact same thing over and over. Actually, it's where the word "progressive" came to be. Those 50 year old" socks and flip-flops" types posing as "intellectuals" sporting a grateful dead T and the ever awesome silver ponytail adopted that word because deep down they knew how filthy they were.

You're basically doing it here.

After hearing the nonsense from that wing, I am convinced America could have actually made it past the goal ( 500 years in power) had we just enforced a plank law for silver tails and third wave feminist.

I'm steering off, back to the refugees. You are dangerous.

Even if the folks being brought in have no ill will towards Americans, you are bringing in people from a culture that treat women as 3rd class citizens. People who have views of death towards gay people. And disagree with the vast majority of the West's way of life. What could possibly go wrong?
