Herman Boone, former football coach of the T.C. Williams Titans, passed away on Wednesday. He was 84.

It's been a tough year for the 71 team. They also lost Julius Campbell and Bill Yoast earlier this year.

This year, T.C. Williams has lost four members of the legendary 1971 Titans, including Boone on December 18. Assistant coach Yoast, 94, died on May 23; Petey Jones, 65, fullback, died on July 1 and Julius Campbell, 65, captain of the team, died on Jan. 25.

T.C. Williams has finally ended its head football coach search, hiring Rodney Hughey to lead the Titan program. Hughey replaces James Longerbeam, who has moved on to Loudoun County, where he now heads the Riverside Rams program.

Prior to his arrival on King Street, Hughey served for ten seasons as assistant coach of the Livingstone College (NC) football program. Hughey was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2013, after serving as defensive backs coach from 2010-2012.

However, after a 4-0 start to the season was followed by six consecutive losses, Livingstone released head coach Daryl Williams last December, and in January, followed with a complete overhaul of the football coaching staff.

I posted on the 4 board as well...former Sherando QB Chacai Campbell has transferred to TC Williams. I’m guessing he will compete for the starting position since Longerbeam graduated.

March 18, 2021: Public Hearing on name recommendations

April 8, 2021: Action Item: School Board votes on new names

July 1, 2021: Implementation of the new names

As a result of the public hearing last Thursday; The board will voted on April 8th to change the name to Alexandria High School as of 7/1/21.
