Headed to Starkville today for our first home FB game in a couple of years. I'm bringing four prospective students (HS seniors), should be a great weekend.

We will be on campus all day Friday for official visits and tours. I know the Junction opens at 4, but what time should I get there to get a spot? Is there a place to be that's better than others? Do I just need to put up my tent to claim a spot?

We haven't done the Friday rush before and I'd like to do it right for these Seniors, so any advice is appreciated, thanks SPS!

The junction has usually had some available space on gamedays. As long as you're ok with setting up your tent away from one of the sidewalks and more towards the middle of the grassy areas then you shouldn't have to fight for a spot. I wouldn't think that it would be necessary to do the whole 4pm thing to claim a spot unless y'all just wanted to do it for the experience.

Do the race for the experience, but uptdawg is right shoot for the center turf.

The regulars will be gunning for their sidewalk spots, so it's probably best to avoid that with "recruits" as it may get heated around the prime real estate.

Plenty of space in the Junction

Head out to the Junction around 3 and set your tent on the sidewalk near a spot you like. Toss a football around for an hour with the kids and then when the horn goes off at 4 you can just walk your tent to that spot. The eastern side of the junction usually has more space. (Lloyd Ricks side)

No need to fight for real estate, even for Gameday there were spots way after 4:00 in the middle. Even if you want to wait till Sat a.m. you can get a spot up the hill toward amphitheater or Montgomery if you're not too picky. Take them to The Dog Walk then about a half hour later up the hill in front of Tin Gym the band will play The Battle Hymn and Hail Dear Old State. We tailgate short walk from there and the number of people taking that in grows almost every game. It can get dusty during the Battle Hymn though if you don't watch out.

Seemed like when I was there the masses huddle right there in the junction closest to the bulldog statue, and since then it's slowly spread farther out.

The cannon was fun when you're a pledge and you had been there since 6am, but I wouldn't say it's something a perspective student needs to experience.

Thanks for the advice. That song does seem to make my allergies flare up. Same thing happened at Arlington when they laid the wreath...weird.
