Hey guys,

First post here, need yall's help. We are a group of msstate students at start up weekend and are designing a new type of cooler if yall dont mind just replying to some quick questions it would help us out alot.

what problems if any do yall have with your current cooler such as losing your cooler, it getting stolen, flipping over etc.?

what type of cooler do yall normally use?

would you be interested in a cooler that offers security- automated lock system-gps, convenience-motorized-mobility-ease of use , and technology?(all of this is connected through an app)

how much would you be willing to pay for a cooler that offers these things?( pricing is not as bad as it sounds)

Is the GPS on the cooler itself or the sticker?

The app controls the color of the window sticker depending on your "smug" mood. Kinda like a mood ring... But it's a mood sticker.

I personally just use a Coleman cooler with wheels. I go with a cheaper cooler because if it were to come up missing I'm not out much money. I really like the motorized aspect of your cooler. The gps and auto-lock system I am curious about. How exactly would they work? Batteries? If so what happens if I have it locked or it is stolen and the batteries die. You also mentioned technology leaving it open ended I'm curious what other features it will have. Also what kind of ice holding abilities will it have? Are we talking cheap cooler or yeti comparisons? If everything is as good as it could potentially be I would be willing to pay a substantial amount. Not sure of an exact dollar amount. Also what sizes would they come available in?

we are contemplating the cooler itself and trying to decide if people would pay an extra 60 dollars or so on top of what a yeti costs for the available features the app will also tell you the temp in the cooler and let you know when more ice is needed as for the batteries and size of the batteries/ battery life we are still working on that we plan on making it rechargeable. as for sizes we have 54 hours to put this together so we are going with a medium sized cooler so just your average yeti

Ok, I would be very interested in this product. Best of luck on y'all's competition.

I don't get the Yeti concept. I have never needed a cooler to keep ice for days. 99% of tailgaters need to keep things cold for the drive to and from the game and the length of the time of the tailgate. I can leave a cheap coleman/igloo cooler on my boat all day, leave the cooler overnight on the dock and there is still some ice and cold drinks the next morning. (The 99% # was pulled from my azz)

A couple of things:

1. I wouldn't buy a yeti without a GPS tracker on it
2. We aren't talking about a smartphone or computer with sensitive or confidential documents or a bank card with access to money... We are talking about a cooler holding $60 worth of food and beer. It would suck, but my life won't be messed up if my cooler gets stolen
3. My $75 igloo works just fine.

The most important feature of tailgating cooler is mobility. Yeti's are extreme overkill for tailgating. I don't really see a demand from the tailgating market for any of the technology. I do think that the app could be very beneficial to the boating and fishing community. When you're 100 miles offshore for several days ice is gold. So to be able to check the temp and ice levels on a cooler without opening it could really come in handy. YES, I would pay an extra $60 if it truly held ice as long as a yeti and had an app that told me temp and ice levels. Hat and Decal must be included.

Good luck.

With the 2 night minimum ripoff required by all Starkville and some Columbus hotels, out of towners need the ice to hold maybe 3-4 days.

Edit all the "yalls" from your posts and it'll sound more legitimate ... JK

The idea sounds interesting, especially the GPS and lock function, but it sounds like it would be really expensive so there may be a small potential market. If you add a motor for mobility, it's gonna get really heavy. I'm not personally interested since we no longer tailgate, but some may be even if the price is high.

Good luck on your project ... pretty creative, actually.

I would like to be able to ride my cooler like a batter powered scooter. It should also double as a chair, all while not being too large.

I would probably not be willing to spend enough to buy something like this, but it sure would be cool.

How will the cooler and app communicate? Will it be Bluetooth where you have to be with in a certain distance of the cooler? I'm curious because as someone that hunts, fishes, and goes camping it would be nice to be able to see if ice is low when I'm away from camp. May be close to a store and would go if I knew I needed ice.

5 year tailgater here that has been through a bunch of coolers and also uses multiple coolers. I run a large tailgate and one of the things I would look for in a cooler for tailgating purposes is durability and mobility. I usually bring 4 coolers out there and the coolers I have (igloo) usually keep ice for multiple days (2-3). The main reason I retire a cooler is because of the lid becoming disconnected/broken or holding water due to ventilation holes in them. I've never had one stolen nor food or drinks removed from them while I'm in the game. I think your market for this cooler would be more to the professional place (fishing, hunting, etc) not the weekend tailgater. Just my thoughts.

the GPS will be like any other GPS not blue tooth now the mobility will be bluetooth and we have already talked to bulk producers of all the necessary items added and price on top of a yeti will be about 60 to 70 dollars added to what a yeti cooler is not as much as you would think added we are still thinking about what type of cooler we want to use so it could be anywhere from 75 dollars to whatever a yeti costs plus about 50-65 dollars.

When you say mobility will be Bluetooth are you saying everything will be connected via Bluetooth except the GPS? Just trying to have a clear understanding.

I prefer the "craft beer in a crap cooler" method.
Considering the OUTSTANDING ****** cell service I get on game day , I be better off hiring Ray Charles to help me find a stolen cooler.
Good idea though.

if you own a yeti, you are probably an automatic *******. completely pointless.

I would suggest trying to make something as tough as a Yeti but light weight. I have a old thick Polar styrofoam cooler that that will outlast a yeti as far as ice, but isn't very durable. My yeti is tough as nails but heavy as he'll. A cooler with a light weight, durable exterior, premium hinges and latches, with a styrofoam core, would be the ticket.

Better yet might be a polyisocyanurate core ... spray foam. Has a high R value per inch and is light weight and tougher than styrofoam. Might could use a thinner, and thus lighter, skin then. Maybe some sort of tough plastic, such as polycarbonate or whatever they make kids' toys out of. And yes, premium hinges and latches. And handles.
