Tailgating at State

Hey everyone!

I live up in Tupelo but I am a Tennessee fan (graduated from there). I have been to several State games in the past but never tailgated.

Me and a few buddies want to tailgate for the State-UT game in Oct. I know a lot of people tailgate around the bookstore and down the sidewalk leading to the stadium.

Is there anything I need to know about or any advice? I know you can't have a grill in the Grove - what about at a State game?

Anything I need to know I would greatly appreciate. Bringing 2 guys that have never been to a game in Starkville.

Thanks!!!

If you don't have someone show up on Friday to set up your tent, you aren't getting a tent in The Junction. Best advice is to setup close to you car wherever you park.

Any other good advice for our vol friend, guys?

Tents can setup beginning at 4 pm on Friday. If you want to be in the Junction be lined up before 4 pm. If you want to tailgate as you please on campus then other areas will not required you to be there at 4 pm. You can bring a grill and I advise arriving 3 - 4 hours early that Saturday, assuming the game isn't at 11 A.M.

You can have a grill but if you are trying to get in the junction there usually isn't a lot of room to have the grill away from your tent. If you are willing to move a little further away from the stadium you shouldn't have a problem.

Plan on either setting up the tent early or carrying everything you need to your spot on game day. This is why Flab is recommending you tailgate near your car. Tons of roads are closed so it's nearly impossible to go to your tent and drop stuff off before you park.

Plan to return to the tailgate after the game. Our campus exit strategy on game day is "good luck buddy" so your life will be better if you just chill a hour after game time before trying to leave.

No butt chugging! We know how you UT guys are. It's not illegal to my knowledge but we just don't want to see that **** on our campus!

You can always get close to the junction either next to Lloyd Ricks or on the edge of the drill field. But as said before, if you aren't putting up your tent on Friday, your not getting a spot in the midst of the Junction.

Yeah, hang around and relax after the game.

Using a Blue Tent for tailgaiting shows you're an insider. It's like a pineapple in Reunion.

I appreciate the helpful advice.

Now the all important question - beer on campus. Do you have to put it in a solo cup or is it ok to just drink openly?

Dry county, and I saw enough beer get confiscated last week to stock a bar with. Play it safe and go with a cup.

Open Containers are everywhere. Beer, wine, liquor. Whole place is an open bar. Saw security guys in fluorescent police vests walking around amongst it all not batting an eye.

BTW, beer should always be served in a glass. Or a cup. Tastes better that way. A good beer needs to breathe and been seen and smelled.
