A group of my friends are planning on starting a tailgate this year as we all have now finished college. We are trying to figure out how to set up our TV to watch the other games throughout the day, but none of us have a dish. Have any of yall used the school wifi to get internet on your computer and then stream from the computer to a TV? This is just an idea we had, and I'm just wondering if the wifi is fast enough on gamedays to actually stream a game without having to buffer all the time. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span><div>
</div><div>If this idea is dumb, what would yall say is the best way to watch other games in the Junction?

That will get you the SECN early game and the 2:30 CBS game. I doubt the wireless will work well enough to stream well.

If someone has satellite tv, you can hit eBay and get an extra. It's not hard to set up after you have done it a time or two.

No one has DTV. Has anyone actually ever tried the wifi? Also, whats the average rate to get someone to set up 2 tents for an entire season?

surely one of your parents has a satellite service? a neighbor? a co-worker? Adding a reciever costs you about $5 a month so if you can find ANYONE willing to do it just give them 10 a month during football season and tell them to shut it off in the off season. Find a dish laying around someone's garage (or on ebay). learn how to hook it all up, and you are golden.<div>
</div><div>other option, do you know anyone else with a tailgate that you could splice the tv signal off of? setup your tent next to theirs and run a cable to yours. you wouldn't be able to pick what game you were watching but considering you are just about out of other options it would work.</div><div>
</div><div>There is no way in this world the school wifi is going to work. if you're able to connect to it so are 50,000 other people. if you were the only ones on it, it probably still wouldn't be strong enough to stream without buffering.</div>

not sure if this stuff works in the U.S. or not.... My wireless carrier in Costa Rica allows me to use my iPhone 4 as a wireless hotspot. I get unlimited data coverage and about 5megs down speed (they advertise that it is 10megs).

Gameday crowds could change the availability of a signal. But surely the greater metropolitan area of Starkville has better wireless coverage than a developing country like Costa Rica.

My use of the wireless hot spot from the iPhone has gotten so reliable that I no longer have internet coverage at home and exclusively use the iPhone option. It is faster and when our unlimited data packages and phone service are only $30 a month it was better than paying 3 times that for 10 megs down speed from the cable company as an ISP.

I use my phone to stream netflix, espn3, and any site you can think of on a daily basis. Even use it to download bit torrents. Speaking of that, just remembered I downloaded the newest episode of Breaking Bad last night, time to hook the HDMI cable to the computer and watch that episode!

A good antenna will pick up about 14 channels, no espn. This may be your best (cheapest) option for your first year.

How much is it to get someone to set our tent, tables, and chairs up as well as break them down? Also, what do you do with your TV, generator, etc?

the best option is to rent a 5x5 storage unit for about $20 a month.

Especially through AT&T. You cant get on to check other scores much less stream video when campus is full if you are on At&t. I'm a fresh C Spire customer now so I guess I'll see how much better that is.

It doesn't work. You can get connected, but the game is unwatchable. It's just too bogged down to work.

Large communal wifis like the one at State - or really any campus - won't provide you a TV-quality picture and sound on a busy Thursday afternoon, let alone a tailgating day when the server's flooded.<div>
</div><div>I have friends (IN OXFORD, OH MY GOD STOP READING HE'S A BEAR SPY) who have this down to as much of a science as possible - metal tripod, lots of slack coax and now a Honda generator, versus hundreds of feet of extension cords. Remember though, you need a clear, unobstructed view of the southern sky, and you'll have to position the transponder accordingly. It takes practice, and have a cell phone ready to call customer service, too.</div>

And be able to run a 32 inch plasma with Directv box and dish? Or am I going to need a 2000watt for that? I'm usually a part of a different tailgate, but I'm taking in laws upfor a few games, do this will be my first time to run my own.

The little 800 watt gens at Harbor Freight work very well and for 89.00 they really cant be beat. The two stroke motor is a little noisey but if you can locate it away from you and block it with a box or something, it works very well. But as far as noise goes, you cant beat a Honda or a Yamaha, I have a Generac 2000w Inverter type and it is no where near as quiet as my neighbors Honda.

We had a 1000 running the 32" Plasma TV, Satellite, and tent lights, it struggled late in the day. We upgraded
To a 2000 last year and it made all the difference.
