Talent Level

Where is all the talk about our horrible talent level in Starkville??? What has happened in two weeks. Did we suddenly get some new players. Holy cow, we have an offensive line and a decent running back. Where did these guys come from. Oh yeah, Croom recruited them. Again, point being, our talent level isn't that bad and Croom and LT weren't the biggest blundering idiots in the whole world. Blaming them when we lose is just plain dumb. State is where we usually are and with some good (and I emphasize good) coaching and player development, we can go to a bowl game this year, definately next year.

but talent level at the QB, WR and DB positions is awful. And our most talented defensive player was closed by Mullen's staff.

The offensive line is not talented, they are just being put in much better positions to succeed as opposed to asking them to line up and push people straight off the line.

at QB and DB (as well as several about WR) the past 2 weeks. We're still nowhere near having the talent to compete in the SEC.

or stupid, so young is a compliment. Go ahead and write this down, the person leaving a job ALWAYS gets blamed for everything that goes wrong for at least two yeas. This is just part of life. If you have a job, whatever it is, when you leave they will blame your sorry *** for everything that goes wrong. Even if they love you now, they will still do it. "Why didn't this get done?" "Cause that Josedutch guy was a dumbass who couldn't find his *** with a flashlight and both hands!"

That being said, Crooms managed to take a SEC and drop us into the absolute gutter in terms of offense. He did some decent recruiting, not great just decent (we are still a SEC school after all), so sure Mullen has a few players to work with. But, we don't have a QB and we don't have a secondary and in case you have missed the season so far that is what is currently screwing us every time we touch the field. Just my thoughts.

Some of our most talented players may not be here if not for Mullen.

Bumphis, Berry, McPhee, Brauchle - those are some huge shoes to fill... and areas that Croom always seemed to suck at (special teams & WR).

Are we Florida caliber? No. Do we some guys that can play and belong in the SEC? Yes. At every single position? No.

QB- Complete and utter failure by Croom. Having a walk-on QB is unacceptable. Midget or not.

O-line- At first glance, these guys look bad. But they apparently have some ability. We start one senior- Craig Jenkins- and he's not that great. Grimes was a horrible coach, and a lot of people didn't notice, or it got lost in the offense sucks shuffle. It has taken Balis to beef them up to an acceptable size and Hevesey to coach them up, but in the right hands, this group has proven to be functional.

TE/WR- We have some decent talent- Green is our best receiver, and Wilder has a lot of potential. I give Mullen credit for Bumphis and Berry. McRae is decent.

RB- Croom left us in good shape here- Dixon, Ducre, Stallworth are all vital to our offense. Elliott needs some work. Hanrahan and Hemphill are walk-ons at a position we don't use a whole lot anyway.

D-line- Love is a good DT, and Burns, Ferguson, Cox, and Boyd are all solid players. I'll give Mullen credit for McPhee, all though I think Croom may have laid the foundation to getting him. Good shape here.

LB- Probably the strongest part of our defense. Chaney, Wright, and I think White are all Croom recruits. Good shape here.

Safety- Decent. Mitchell, Bonner, and Zach Smith are all Croom recruits and all have played a role this year. I think we are starting to use Smith in a way that suits us better.

CB- Bad shape here. Washington and Anderson, both Croom recruits look lost.

ST- I think Croom got commitments from Brauchle and Hutchins. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here. If I'm right, then he finally got us some quality kickers, at least. Too late for Croom though! Berry goes to Mullen.

just wait until the season starts and you'll find out just how bad the last staff was. I believe him. Mullen's added some juco's and freshmen but he's also "coaching up" the others to the best of his ability and its showing.

You can't give Croom credit for Chaney. That was pure luck and a kind act by Richt.

Ducre and McRae were transfers but we did get them when they probably looked at other programs so I can give Croom those.

I may not have been the only one, but I did say it quite a few times

It is obvious how horrendously coached we were. I mean, we all knew it at the time, but it is seriously evident now. The dead giveaway is that we are all thrilled and shocked at things Mullen is doing that, when you really think about it, any halfway decent coach would do. Such as, clock management, for instance.

Freakin Lance Long made an NFL roster. That speaks volumes. The guy was way less than average under Croom. But inside there somewhere hidden by McCorvey, he had NFL talent.

Somewhere, Will Prosser is kicking the ground.

saturday evening. and i think it's true. mullen appears at times to be coaching well, and at others not. i think at the end of the season you'll be pleased with him though.

You could be right... I thought Brauchle committed after the season, although we may have had him in the bag well before that. But I'm pretty sure Hutchins committed during the season under Croom. I remember seeing highlights of ICC games on WTVA and them mentioning it.
