Was just thinking that: I guess Tulane is tired of people stealing their coach. Terrible move by that AD. Coach O would have been better than that.

Will Hall is going to be a successful football coach somewhere someday. He may never make it at the P4 level but he’s a good coach.

You run into this with teams on the fringes. Look at the top 4. Very little drama.

Granted, coaches on teams like OSU, UGA and Bama will always "be on the hot seat" in their fans' eyes if they aren't undefeated and beating everyone by 50.

I’m just not understanding the link between Tulane making an uninspiring hire and their needing to be a 4 team playoff? What exactly does this hire have to do with the amount of playoff teams?

I mean, it's not ideal, but I don't think a bad stint at USM means he can't win. And with all the quick triggers, G5 schools are going to have to roll the dice on unproven assistants, lower tier head coaches, or people that have already failed as head coaches at the G5 or possibly P4 level. I don't know that a successful coordinator that has already failed once is an obviously worse bet than a coordinator that hasn't been a head coach at that level.

I didn't watch how he failed at USM though. Was it MOrehead'esque? Where it's clear he's just not head coach material? Or was it possibly just a combination of not being very good as a first time head coach combined with the challenges at coaching at a G5 school trending in the wrong direction?

He's just not very good.

Tulane has had extended success with two good coaches. They could have done a lot better. I just feel like they put their cards on baker and fell flat. Most Tulane folks thought they had him.

Wow, Tulane! Really? I guess you're happy going back to being the old Tulane again.

I guess he is saying there is so much turnover in college football, you're less likely to have teams with coaching changes if there are just 4.

The coaching turnover bit needs to be solved somehow. Nobody but the bluebloods have any stability and continuity.
