He said Cohen is asking some players to leave, and he is telling some players they can walk on without there scholarship they have this year. I know Houston has been asked to walk on and Whitney and Routt will have a spot. The rest of the pitchers are likely gone. Thats all he knew when I talked to him.

that's probably what I would have told all of them, too. Truth hurts. I would hope that Paxton Pace could come back after getting a little surgical clean-up on his wing. But you never know. I just don't see how he could promise anything to anyone past Routt and Whitney at this time. Maybe things change over the summer, but I doubt it.

players on scholarship, plus 7-8 walk-ons. And everybody on scholly has to have a minimum of 1/3 a scholarship....so that only leaves you 2.8 of them to spread around where you want to.

I really like his upside, and I think that he could be a pretty good relief pitcher next year for us.

Routt and Whitney are the only guys we have that really proved themselves as an SEC pitchers. Whitney was borderline, though. He would probably have a been mid-week at an LSU or UGA. I hope he improves. After that, you really can't promise anything to anyone. If they aren't going to be healthy, we can't afford to wait and see. We just had a full season tryout, and if you haven't proved yourself by now, there's nobody else to blame.

isn't it 27 schlorships with 5 walk-ons? I believe I read they are reducing the numbers from 35 to 32 (total).

But regardless if what is said that only Routt and Whitney have a spot and the rest or either gone or have a chance to try out is a good thing. I just didn't see anything promising in the young pitchers I saw pitch.
As for as Devon Jones, he throws ok but his fastball doesn't move and his curveball seems to hang way too much, not sold on him being a SEC pitcher.

only 27 can be on athletic scholarship this year and 35 roster. However, you can have the 8 "walk ons" on academic money. Also, the 25% can be satisfied from all sources-academic and athletic.

Im hearing Pace will be back also (as far as pitchers go).

also what you say about "sources-academic and athletic" could put more importance on football players playing baseball which I would like to see.

Btw, is the Bole kid a better hitter than pitcher? With the numbers being 35, you gotta sign duel position players.

the only problem I see with "dual position" players is that at State the pitchers and position players do totally separate workouts. Its not like high school where everyone practices together. It is very difficult to do both just from a physical standpoint and do both well. Not to say you can't come in and throw a few innings. Forrest Moore tried to do both

and they discussed all the signees and highlighted the fact that some of them were dual position guys. He said that Trey Johnson may be our best signee b/c of his offensive power and his ability to pitch.

I don't think anyone will be denied the chance to show they can get outs.
