He and I have been friends since he got here, so I'll just post what he said and let everyone else either bash him or whatever.

I was slightly drunk so the first thing i said to him was "you fighting irish mother %#++!@." His eyes got real wide and asked me how I knew about ND. I just laughed, he also said that he was looking at Indiana. I asked why he was leaving and he said 1) Stansburys ability, or lack thereof, to develop players throughout their 4 year career at MSU and 2) the whole Jamont situation has left a bad taste in his mouth. Throughout the whole conversation he kept referring to his father, so its possible that Dr. Hans may be picking Ben's next location.

Avid reader first time poster. Prayer sent? 17 you.

"Stansburys ability, or lack thereof, to develop players throughout their 4 year career at MSU"

There are a few player that might disagree with you on that one.

On that point, how in the world does he know how Stansbury develops players? We've been mostly young for both of his years here.

If Jamont indeed did impact Ben's decision, you would have to assume that it for the Delks as well as Turner's (if true). Overall, I like Jamont and think we need him, but if keeping him happy meant losing the Delks, Hans, and Turner, that was a bad decision by Rick. And if it turns out we lose them and Gordon goes pro...17 me.

The theory of 'keeping Jamont happy' is the biggest load of ******** that was ever contrived on this board. He wasn't keeping Jamont happy, he was keeping the ball in the hands of his best players.

Ben is simply saying what daddy is telling him. It is all about daddy and his control, plus the fact daddy is p o'd that Mamma has had Ben near her and it is another way for him to put the shaft in her. Ben is not going to get much better and daddy thinks he can be a star point guard, which he isn't. I feel sorry for Ben, he is caught in the middle but I for one, think in 3 years he'll be wishing he had stayed here.

Stansburys ability, or lack thereof, to develop players throughout their 4 year career at MSU
Dear Ben,

You are a step slower than most people at your position, have the tendency to not show up in crucial games and you are 6" shorter than your brother. To better understand your lack of development over the last 2 years, find a mirror.

This is Hansdaddy manipulation all the way. One son is an AA playing on a consistent top 10 team (was considered #1 team during seeding) and making it to the Final Four. He's surrounded by top tier talent and is attending one of the top college basketball programs in history with all the pagentry that goes along with that. The other son is a virtual nobody playing on a team that has was an 8 seed and lost in the second round. He's surrounded by good talent, but certainly a lot less than UNC, and is attending a school that has been competing pretty well the past decade and a half but doesn't have much history before that, and has made a grand total of 1 Final Four appearance. On top of that, MSU doesn't even have its own practice facility. This is going to naturally create an inbalance in Daddy Hans' mind. How can one brother be an AA and a Final Four participant while the other is not even All Conference and losing in the second round? His conclusion - it isn't Ben's lack of talent and size, it's Stansbury. Ben was apparently fine when he left to go watch brother play in the Final Four. He comes back and asks for a transfer stating that we lack a practice facility and Stansbury can't develop players, the latter of which is surely news to Timmy Bowers, Derrick Zimmerman, and Deitric Slater. This has Daddy written all over it. I think people blaming Jamont or Stans are off base.

wuss. The guy is totally being led around by the nose by his Dad. He forcefully tells the media he's coming back until he goes and visits with ole Dad at Tyler's games and now its "I've got to play ANYWHERE but MSU". And as far as Rick developing players look no further than Ben. Rick must have done a pretty good job with him if after 2 years he's getting offers from the likes of Notre Dame and Indiana. When we picked him up the best he could do was SIU apart from us. Pretty flimsy excuses from a guy playing at a program coming off back-to-back SEC West championships, an NIT final four and an NCAA tournament trip with a 3 point loss to the National runner-up (who really should have been the champion).

He knows because he played for team. Even I can see this from the stands.

I would say that since Ben has been in Starkville Stansbury has developed players: Rhodes, Varnado, Gordon, and even Hansbrough significantly improved from where they were at the beginning of Hansbrough's time in Starkville.

There are legitimate criticisms of Stansbury, but, at least in the last few years, failing to develop players doesn't seem to be one of them.

He loves the attention he's getting right now. How soon can he move to south bend? And about the stansbury not bein able to develop players, players develop themselves not coaches idiot. It pisses me off he is talkin **** about our program to people. I for one am glad the insecure punk is leaving.

I think I remember when we were first recruiting him, Ben said in an interview something to the fact that since he has his hands, he doesn't need a girlfriend. Which prompted some people to think he was alluding to him being a chronic masturbater. Not 100% certain it was Ben, but that article struck me as S-T-R-A-N-G-E!

I'll just say that Hans was on nobody's radar. He was evaluated as mid-major talent. Tops. In two years at State, he developed into a player that averaged 10 pts a game. Whether he wants to freakin' admit it or not, I'd say it's obvious that he has "developed" as a player and this coaching staff had plenty to do with that, one way or the other.

In other words, that little peckerhead can bite it.

Stans would have never knew this guy existed if he wasn't recruiting Tyler for 3 years before Tyler became #1 prospect.... He developed a relationship and decided to give the guy a chance.. I remember all the writings about Hans saying we were the ONLY school that stuck with him after Tyler went to UNC.. MSU was the ONLY major conference offer he got.. and not even a lot of schools asking him to walk-on.

I don't care if he leaves but to say our staff can't develop a player is insane.. this kid was nothing more than "Tyler's little brother" out of HS. Now he says Indiana talked to him?? that is proof enough.

Also- my partner at work is a HUGE UNC supporter/booster.. He says there are a lot of big donors that are ready for Tyler to be gone so that they quit getting constant request from Daddy Hans to use their seats for a game... he apparently thinks that he deserves "prime" seating for TV since his son "is the only reason they are any good".

From the Palm article: "Ben, a junior point guard, drives a white Chevy Tahoe with tinted windows and custom silver rims that spin even when he shuts off the engine. "

Ben had spinners? Kill me now.

in Ben's two years here we've only had two major senior contributors after graduating that 2005 class and starting over with young players. Of course, those two players are good examples of Stansbury developing players.

If you want to talk about Stansbury not being able to handle attitude, or Stansbury missing on recruiting, fine. But the guy has proven he can develop some players over the course of his tenure. Find another excuse Ben.

...since we offered both Tyler and Ben as a package deal when Tyler was a senior. Hell, we even had Tyler in for a visit, but we just got Ben. Tami told me that all she wanted was for Ben to get better. I asked her this year, "is Ben getting better, and she said "Yes."
