he was an assistant for Akron in 1986 I think before he went to Samford. That's a while back, but at least he has some familiarity with the program. Good move for them. I think it was pretty obvious he didn't want to be at UNA long. He wanted back in D1 pretty quickly.

he would have take the job in a heart beat and probably done pretty well. Plus he would still be recruiting in the south.

I think he will do well at Akron. Ohio has good football, and some of the kidsleftover from whatthe Big 10 schools getare solid players. They went 1-11 this year, so if he can make them bowl eligible in two years, he will have done a hell of a job.

He will get some opportunities to impress some folks over the next few years. Akron plays Tennessee and UCFin 2012, Michigan and UCF in 2013, Penn State and Pittsburgh in 2014, and Notre Dame and Pittsburgh in 2015. If he ends up as the HC at a BCSprogram in the next few years, it will probably be one of the more impressive coaching comebacks ever. Out of football 10 years, and he's already back in D1 after 3 years at UNA.

Bob Davie has been out of football for 10 years, and he's back in D1 immediately. Some of these AD's make some head scratching hires.
