Sounds like Tavita will also soon be gone. I wonder, assuming that is true, if it is a move of his own choosing or a move that was forced on him by Riley?

Any chance this is him using some leverage to try and get a real paying job on the staff? I know little to zero on this, so don't laugh, it was just a thought that popped into my head.

I don't know if Tavita is staying or not, just found the Twitter follows interesting. Especially since it happened after the coaches convention. Kurt is still visiting this weekend, I can't imagine a GA position coach is going to sway him one way or another, when push comes to shove.

I know he loved "the whole package" and he's not just here because of Tavita.

Tavita greater than or equal to Vince Morrow?
What's his value going forward? The prevailing thought was that Tavita would have a spot on staff if there was an added coaching position granted by the NCAA?
Was this just falsely thrown out there? I would think that possibly Tavita would have some desire to move back out west where he got his start (Oregon State) with the promotion he would have to wait for here

I am a little snake bitten when it comes to things Bo did that previous coaches at NU didn't do. Bo hired way too many GA's IMO. If BYU hires Tavita Thompson I would be excited for the guy. BYU would be a great place for him to cut his teeth. I just don't think NU is a place for a first time coach (even one with GA coaching experience). Too much criticism in Lincoln for an inexperienced guy. Provo would be a good place for him.

I wouldn't blame him for wanting to be certain he lands somewhere.

Don't think it was falsely thrown out there... most who post on this board aren't insiders. I think it was posted as a possibility and a good thing, but not a done deal, imo.

Writing is on the wall, in my opinion, though I can't figure out why someone would do something so public that would lead to speculation, UNLESS he's trying to exert some pressure on the Huskers to give him a full-time gig.

Or unless he knows he only has one more year as a GA and has been told he will not be retained after that so start looking....

And so now round and round we go... RollingLaugh

Doesn't he have Polynesian background? If so, BYU would make sense as they have a big Polynesian population due to religion. See Utah Utes as well.

From a recruiting standpoint, Morrow > Thompson, and it's not even close. I believe their coaching was close to equal with all things considered.

Morrow was an awful coach ... however great recruiter

Tavita>Morrow Coaching

Morrow>Tavita Recruiting

Probably pretty close to a push

Barney Cotton was an awful (TE) coach. Morrow did an okay job with the position. Ben Cotton played pretty dang good ball under Morrow, then slipped under his dad.

Thompson gets too much love on here, for what results? Cethan Carter in 2015? Sam Cotton didn't improve, Tre Foster didn't improve, our recruited guys are TBD.

I always wondered why some people assumed Tavita would get moved to a full time position. He really didn't fit the profile of guys Riley has said he wants to hire. BYU should be a good first job for him. Any 5 star TEs coming up the next year or so that also have a dad that can coach TEs?:D
