A Pat Forde article lists teams in the panic mode. While it is early for panic two games into the season, early returns for Rhule at Nebraska and Fickell at Wisconsin.

Rhule is sticking with his turnover prone transfer QB this week. And Longo's air raid offense has not taken off yet Time will tell, but hopefully the Badgers don't get it together before we play them in early October.

Hafley at BC and Mora at UConn also make the list.

Is it worth having a pool on which of the usual suspects add a name to the list?

I'm curious about Mora. UConn did well last year but as an independent they can schedule some punching bags. Did that account for most of their wins last year?

And what are the expectations for football? I wouldn't expect them to be too high since the admin gave up on a football conference to get basketball back in the Big East.

Mora's 6 wins last year were against:
Central Connecticut (2-9 NEC Team)
Fresno State (10-4 MWC champ-good win)
FIU (4-8 CUSA)
BC (3-9 ACC- our "fans" were chippy about UConn's margin of win)
UMass (1-11)
Liberty (8-5; good win)

It was a good year considering how bad UConn was in the previous 3-4 years under Rockin' Randy Edsall. And they started off 1-4. But this is a cautionary tale of celebrating a coach/team's record too soon, and for that matter, denigrating a team/coach's record too soon. We have all sorts of posts/threads denigrating our program and the speed of it's progress whenever a guy like Mora has a year like he did.

In this regard, as in my OP, it's too soon to say anything about Fickell and Longo at Wisconsin or Rhule at Nebraska. We know that teams are not rebuilt in a year. Sometimes it takes longer, and sometimes rebuilds happen more quickly.

Lance Leipold was the apple of some fans' eyes last year when Kansas started out 5-0, but then went 1-6 the rest of the season. He has Kansas off to another good start, but it is still early.

This year, we have some of our fans cheering for Sanders, but let's see how the rest of the season goes.

Mora shouldn’t be in trouble. He should be hired by a better program.
Fickell will be very good.
Ruhle needs a QB
Hopefully Hafley will be our recruiter next year.
Mora maybe. Was surprised he was not hired before his gig at UConn.

Rhule -seems he has no reliable backup. Sims was a time bomb at Georgia Tech. Poor choice by him and his OC.

Fickell- too early to tell. We have seen many coaches do well at G5 and lower level programs and not do well at P5. But Wisconsin will get it right.

With Alavarez's shadow looming over every aspect of that program, he better get it figured out quick. Barry got talked into doing things differently from how Barry Alvarez always did them and boosters paid up. Alavarez is not known to be patient.

We'll see how long Barry gives this air-raid offense which to date has been shot down by anti-aircraft fire. They have a cupcake schedule, so I think they'll be alright. Fickell should be sending half of his 1st year salary to the B1G Schedule makers.

I couldn't agree more but, how soon is "too soon"? I - like a number of other frustrated fans here last year - complained that 3 years was more than enough for Schiano to show some real results on the field especially when Bret Bielema was able to show dramatic improvement by his second season at Illinois.

At least, that was my argument until .. well - this year happened and Illinois doesn't look anywhere near as good as they did last year. Conversely, RU looks much improved (which, for the average, impatient fan like me is very satisfying). But, this is what fans want: win a lot .. and do it now!

As Tom Petty sang so well, The Waiting is the hardest part.
It's difficult to watch the parade of other teams quickly marching by to the beat of a winning season while our team is toiling away in futility. I was very frustrated throughout and at the end of last season. But taking stock of the fact that Noah unexpectedly got hurt, then Gavin got hurt in the Temple game, that really derailed the offense that may not have been that great even if Gavin and Noah had not been injured.

But as we saw with Leipold's start last year, things can change quickly. Will Leipold ultimately produce a team that regularly competes for the top of the Big 12? That remains to be seen. He still has a losing record, and he still has a long way to go. Having Texas leave the conference will help. But the addition of Colorado and the addition of other teams will make it more difficult.

And Bielema is another good example. Last year's "hot chick" all of the sudden is fat (ha, ha) and has pimples.

The other area I had wished RU had focused on was getting a QB in the transfer portal. But the early indications (and it is early) is that maybe that would have been the best move. Just look at Rhule and Nebraska. And Tanner Mordecai is not exactly lighting it up at Wisconsin. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out, but it seems that maybe this will be like Greg 1.0's 2005 season, setting the table for future success. If we get a few things to bounce our way, maybe this will be better than 2005, and perhaps we can notch more than 6 wins, and dare I say 8 wins?

Of course Alvarez has no patience...he's from Jersey.
