I'm curious about Mora. UConn did well last year but as an independent they can schedule some punching bags. Did that account for most of their wins last year?
And what are the expectations for football? I wouldn't expect them to be too high since the admin gave up on a football conference to get basketball back in the Big East.
Mora's 6 wins last year were against:
Central Connecticut (2-9 NEC Team)
Fresno State (10-4 MWC champ-good win)
FIU (4-8 CUSA)
BC (3-9 ACC- our "fans" were chippy about UConn's margin of win)
UMass (1-11)
Liberty (8-5; good win)
It was a good year considering how bad UConn was in the previous 3-4 years under Rockin' Randy Edsall. And they started off 1-4. But this is a cautionary tale of celebrating a coach/team's record too soon, and for that matter, denigrating a team/coach's record too soon. We have all sorts of posts/threads denigrating our program and the speed of it's progress whenever a guy like Mora has a year like he did.
In this regard, as in my OP, it's too soon to say anything about Fickell and Longo at Wisconsin or Rhule at Nebraska. We know that teams are not rebuilt in a year. Sometimes it takes longer, and sometimes rebuilds happen more quickly.
Lance Leipold was the apple of some fans' eyes last year when Kansas started out 5-0, but then went 1-6 the rest of the season. He has Kansas off to another good start, but it is still early.
This year, we have some of our fans cheering for Sanders, but let's see how the rest of the season goes.
