Teaneck/Hackensack brawl

Planting the Hackensack flag at midfield right after an emotional rivalry game was not a good idea. Not surprising that Teaneck took offense to that.

But the subsequent fighting and brawling should draw punishment for the perps.
It goes both ways. No one takes it personal after they leave the field. If you're not a part of this rivalry you don't get some of the dumb stuff that goes down. When it's over, it's over. There's no gang relater stuff. It's about one upping the other town. Just ask mod Shawn. He's from Teaneck.

I may be wrong but isn’t this a yearly type thing between these two schools...a game which includes a brawl amongst the players... fans... staff...I thought it was great when they shouted to the kid “ turn it off don’t record this”... classic educators in today’s society.

This situation is personal to me because of my involvement with both schools. What really gets to me is how some here pass judgment of the situation based off a video. You're entitled to you opinion and that's fine, but I don't appreciate the thug comment by one poster.

I don't think anyone's bringing in race.

There are never brawls when Weequahic plays Shabazz.

Speaking of that Newark South Ward rivalry, who won the game today?

As a HHS grad and player (class of 69) I agree with Buff 100% well other than support for Teaneck of course

I live in Teaneck and don't appreciate the comment either.
I wasn't at the game but seems like a tough close game where emotions got out of control. Fighting is wrong. It doesn't belong on the field.

My kids are young but I would hope that people would not assume that they were thugs if they got into a fight.

If they tried to plant a flag after a win like that on my high school field during my playing days, I would have reacted the same way. No way would I let the opposing players rub it in with that bullsh*t. That's exactly what they were trying to do with the flag. I'm not a thug nor was I ever, I've been a law abiding citizen my entire life. But even I wouldn't have stood for that bullsh*t. I would have reacted just like the guy did by taking the flag bearer to the ground.

So I'm a thug because I'm from the Sack? Off the field there is no issue between the towns. This doesn't carry over to other areas of life. I played for Sack and coached there as well as coached at Teaneck.
Sorry to offend. I wasnt serious. My comment was more about the other thug thread.

Paramus malls killed Hackensack's downtown. Hackensack's business district was called the "Main St." of Bergen County. The city is remaking it's downtown to be similar to Hoboken with bars/ restaurants mixed the other stores and residential apartments.

Hopefully people in Hackensack shop local this weekend and give those mom and pop stores and shops a little boost.

Who said race? I said thug which to me implies a criminal.

Well I'm not quite sure why you are offended TBH. There is certainly a decent chance with video evidence that there can be criminal charge levied. Especially the first person attacking unprovoked. So the poster said thug because he clearly committed a criminal act - if someone chooses to press charges.

Emotions running high or not.

That wasn't that big of a deal. People in social media like to make grand statements about kicking kids out of sports indefinitely and other ridiculous things, but this was over in two minutes and nobody looked to be hurt. If a kid is suspended for a game that's fine, but get a grip--this was lightweight stuff.

Just an opinion yes but for someone who followed your career it is sad what has happened over the past several years and that is the fact...if the shoe fits these two programs NOW not 20 something years ago then it’s what makes the headlines Doug...Tell us why this happens in schools with a large minority enrollment? Almost always without fail... Don’t remember that happening as frequently during your days in the gri

Apparently there were also brawls today in the Paterson Eastside vs Paterson Kennedy and the Cateret vs Perth Amboy games too.

To me, this looks like a few kids being knuckleheads (looks like one was trying to plant the flag), and the adults were being adults.

DON'T FILM THIS, JJ!

Depends what you're looking for. Teanecks downtown is a mixture of kosher and cosmopolitan. It's one of the most diverse towns in America, and it's downtown reflects a diverse populace.

Al, I'm in Teaneck all the time. It's been nothing but a disappointment since Geronimo Hot Spot closed. There might be one decent Chinese restaurant and one good Italian place. And that thing they call The Farmers' Market is a joke.
It does have lots of banks though.

It doesn't matter what the makeup of the enrollment is. They will always be a few knuckleheads that ruin it for the larger group. All society is going to do is point to the knuckleheads and say that is what those towns are about. I bet you never knew that Paramus High School is more violent than Hackensack High School according to state statistics. I don't hear anyone talking about Ridgewood High. A kid was almost killed there a couple weeks ago by another student over a girl. The media is partly responsible for how we see things now. At Rutgers I had a professor tell me news today is not informative, but it's about sensationalism. The news creates the image of what we should be thinking because they don't give us enough credit to think on their own.
